James Corden is kicking himself right now.
As we previously reported, Sean Spicer surprised the Emmys audience by appearing at the award show on Sunday. While many laughed at Spicey “crashing” the Emmys, others were not quite ready to see the Donald Trump lackey front and center again.

As Zach Braff perfectly put it:
I’m not ready to laugh “with” Sean Spicer. I think he is an evil, opportunistic liar that hurt our country.

Oof. So, it’s no wonder people are PISSED at the Late Late Show host for planting a kiss on the former press secretary during the Hollywood bash. And Variety‘s caption for the image on Instagram certainly didn’t help the situation either:

Ugh. We can’t even look at it!!
People were quick to weigh in on the snap as they took to Twitter and wrote:
Fuck James Corden, next time you have a heartfelt monologue on late night, we will all remember you kissing Sean Spicer.

Man. The vitriol that was sent towards Fallon for messing up Trump’s hair. Wait, Corden did what? pic.twitter.com/usvkz7PBOS

So savage. Unsurprisingly, Corden addressed the controversial kissing pic during his monologue on Monday. The chat show host noted:
“According to some reports, at the after-party, Spicer was the most popular guy in the room. And I just want to say, I think people are forgetting that this man lied to the American people, and should not be embraced… These Hollywood phonies kissing up to Sean Spicer are disgusting. I mean, who did this? Who are we talking about here?!”
The funny man then plastered the controversial pic up on the screen and continued:
“I know you think that is a picture of me kissing Sean Spicer but, in the spirit of Sean Spicer, no it isn’t. To be fair, everyone was kissing ass last night at the Emmys. I just happened to kiss the biggest one there.”
Good save, bud. On a more somber note, the Into The Woods actor admitted that he too was “disappointed” in himself and relayed:
“In truth, I’m disappointed by it as well. I am. I have been reading a lot of harsh comments on Twitter today and I hear you loud and clear. Truly, I do… So much so I’m really starting to regret that Carpool Karaoke that we’ve taped with Steve Bannon. Feels like a mistake.”
LOLz! We think James is going to survive this controversy!
