James Cromwell Wants To Honor Dead Horses

James Cromwell is an outspoken champion for animal rights.
We previously mentioned he was arrested during a protest for abused cats.
Now, he has sent a letter to Belmont Stakes officials asking that they memorialize 35 horses who have died at Belmont Park racetrack since the 2012 Triple Crown race.
The Belmont Stakes is a horse race and is the third and final leg of the illustrious Triple Crown.
Cromwell asks that the names of the horses be printed on a tribute page in the race day program.
He wrote in the letter:

“Will you, amid the festivities of the Belmont Stakes day, remind racegoers that these horses were once as alive and full of energy as the thoroughbreds they will see racing on June 8?”

He addressed his plea to the New York Racing Association’s (NYRA) Chair, David J. Skorton, and steward, Carmine Donofrio. They have yet to respond.
We really hope they listen to his letter because people can get caught up in the fanfare and excitement of a horserace, not realizing the toll it takes on the actual animals.
Thanks for fighting for the horses, James!
