Details are continuing to come to light about the ups and downs in Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler‘s marriage since their bombshell divorce announcement.
While we’ve gotten a peek during episodes of Very Cavallari, and heard some info straight from the blossoming legal battle between them, a friend close to the situation is now pulling back the curtain even more on what went down behind the scenes.

A source spilled to People:
“He would make her cry all the time during production. He talked down to her and belittled her. She couldn’t take it anymore.”
That’s so sad!
And apparently, it’s been going on for much longer than we thought! A second insider said the exes have been “struggling” for “at least three years, explaining:
“He belittles Kristin and makes her cry in front of other people. He flies off the handle at the littlest thing and would make Kristin absolutely miserable.”
As we previously reported, Cavallari claimed in a new legal filing that her estranged husband refuses to move from their current home and release funds to her so she can purchase a new house. This came in response earlier this week to a sealed emergency motion filed by the former NFL player, who allegedly “informed her that his attorney was going to stop her from purchasing the house she wanted.”
The Hills alum claimed:
“Wife does not believe that it is in the best interest of either party or their minor children to reside in the same house … Wife fears that if the parties are required to remain in the same residence, it would be an unhealthy environment, causing irreparable harm to their minor children. Husband makes inappropriate statement to and about Wife and attempts to draw her into an argument in front of their minor children. Now that Husband has announced he will not leave so Wife can exercise parenting time with the children, Wife fears the situation will escalate.”
It’s been made clear that things were going sour between them before the separation announcement was made, with the Uncommon James founder even beginning to look at new homes last Fall during a rough period. Ultimately, she “decided not to purchase the house” after they “attempted to salvage the marriage.”
