'I Cried Because I Was So Happy': JAY-Z Opens Up About His Mom Gloria Carter Coming Out

Gloria Carter is an icon and a saint.
As you probably know, JAY-Z‘s mom recently opened up to her family for the first time about being gay and in love with her partner. This powerful moment was included in the rapper’s latest album, 4:44, on the song, Smile.
In a preview for the Friday episode of Netflix‘s My Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman, Beyonc├â┬⌐‘s husband opens up about Gloria’s coming out story.

He shared:

“Imagine having lived your life for someone else. And you think you’re protecting your kids. And for my mother to have to live as someone that she wasn’t and hide and, like, protect her kids ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ and didn’t want to embarrass her kids, and you know, for all this time.”

The 48-year-old later said:

“For her to sit in front of me and tell me, ‘I think I love someone,’ I mean, I really cried. That’s a real story. I cried because I was so happy for her that she was free.”
