Jennifer Aniston and Chelsea Handler aren’t friends anymore… At least, not like they were.
The two actresses seemed inseparable for years. They would vacation together, seek each other out at award shows, laugh and smile in every single picture — they seemed to be total besties! But one day, it all stopped… and the reason we’re now hearing for the split is pretty heartbreaking.

According to a close source to Jen for DailyMail.com, the duo had a differing of opinions and lifestyles:
“Jen wants to be more private, while Chelsea wants to be front and center, so perhaps a breakdown was always inevitable.”
Was Jen worried her pal would put their activities on front street? That she would talk about private matters publicly? Hmm.
It was also a bit of a “too much too soon” type of situation. Their friendship was originally based on their senses of humor, and they went “headfirst” into it, per the insider:
“They jumped into their friendship headfirst and went from not knowing each other to being together 24/7.”
The nail in the coffin, though, was Chelsea being a bit too loose-lipped for the Friends actress’ taste, according to the source. Ouch!
They explained how the years-long feud between Jennifer and Angelina Jolie over Brad Pitt is where it started. Remember how the Chelsea Lately host used to go up to bat for her friend and completely drag Angie through the mud? Yeah, apparently that’s what did it. Jen seemed to appreciate the defense at first, but after a while… it just all became way too much.
In fact, back in 2018 when the 56-year-old was splitting with Justin Theroux, it was reported she felt “paranoid” that people close to her were leaking secrets to the press:
“Jennifer became paranoid, thinking that people around her were leaking stories to the press. Chelsea was still talking about Jennifer in interviews, and Jennifer automatically pointed the finger at her.”
Oof…
It’s worth noting at the time it was suspected Justin did NOT like Chelsea either, so that just added to the strain on their friendship. We wonder if he also thought she was leaking stories?
The insider went on to say things are “not the same” as they were before and they “never will be” — perhaps, they contend, because of Chelsea being jealous of Jennifer’s status as an A-lister:
“Chelsea seemed willing to do anything to be a star, and Jennifer was already a big name, so of course there were hints of jealousy.”
OK, that seems a little… Really? That seems like a harsh view of Chelsea to us.
But the insider makes it sound like the former E! host had no chance of being one of Jen’s closest friends anyway. The Just Go With It actress has “a wide group of friends which at one time included Chelsea, but she never made it into her inner circle like Courteney Cox or Jimmy Kimmel” per the source. And though the two are still friendly enough and like each other’s Instagram posts, they’ll likely never have a “serious friendship” again.
