Jessica Simpson Swears She Only Told 'The Truth' About Nick Lachey Divorce As She Goes Makeup Free For 'Glamour'

The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth — that’s mostly what Jessica Simpson promises in Open Book. Except maybe the “whole” part. We’ll get back to that.

The I Wanna Love You Forever singer’s much-talked-about memoir hit bookstores Tuesday, and to commemorate the occasion Jessica bared more than her soul.

For her cover of Glamour magazine, she went totally makeup free to show the REAL Jessica Simpson!

Ch-ch-check out the what she had to show — and say — in “The Honesty Issue” (below):

Jessica has already obviously shared quite a few bombshells over the past couple weeks, including her decade-long addiction to alcohol and pills, the wild details of her relationship with John Mayer, and the secret problems which plagued her marriage to Nick Lachey.

So what new could she tell the magazine? Well, there was one surprising truth: she doesn’t watch any reality TV! Being such an early staple of the genre made her completely unable to watch it now. She explains:

“It was The Real World and The Osbournes and then me and Nick. I know things are so set up and everything so positioned…”

Yep, she can see the Matrix code now. She even had it down back then:

“Toward the end I knew what was going to make it to air, and so I would just go through the motions and do it, and just so it could be over because it was a hard time in our marriage.”

Hmm. That led very conveniently to what we really wanted Jess to discuss…

On the split from Nick, she said:

“When I went through the divorce [from Nick], I divorced the world — that’s how it felt to me. As if I let people down. People looked to us as the trophy couple and I was the trophy wife, even though I didn’t know how to use the Swiffer. I tried; like, I mean I was not Betty Crocker and we all know that, but I tried.”

On Monday, Nick and Vanessa Lachey responded not to the book exactly — as the 98 Degrees singer pretended not to have heard about anything that was in it — but they still couldn’t help but deny even the basic claim that they had bought her a baby gift.

Vanessa in particular was very certain she had never sent that woman anything in her life! LOLz!

Meanwhile, Jessica says she was actually really sensitive regarding her revelations about Nick because he has a family now:

“With Nick, I tried to handle everything with as much care as possible. He has a family, he’s married. I never want his kids to think something that, you know, there were parts… there are parts of people that’s their story to tell.”

Hmm. So she’s holding things back about him? Something she wouldn’t want his kids to hear from her? Inneresting…

Jessica does admit to having a very subjective view of the events, though it’s definitely all true as far as she’s concerned:

“It’s really the marriage through my lens. People don’t want me lying; they want the truth from me.”

One of the many things we’ve learned about Jessica from her tell-all is that her first marriage apparently wasn’t even the most impactful relationship in her life.

That honor (or dishonor) belongs to her on-again, off-again fling with John Mayer, which the Dukes of Hazzard star blames for kicking off her descent into drinking.

However, even knowing the consequences Jessica says she has no regrets about that romance:

“Would I go back and change that relationship [with John Mayer]? No. Because it made me love Eric even more. It made me a better wife, it made me a better lover, it made me a better partner.”

While she wouldn’t go back and tell her younger self to stay away from the guitarist, she would caution others to learn from her mistakes:

“Yes, it was a relationship that was a yo-yo; it was always back and forth. To feel wanted and then to be shut out, and to feel wanted, to be completely shut out. I mean, my advice is to pick up on those signs. If there have been three breakups, stop it there. There can’t be 9 to 10, because that’s immature. That’s not love. If you’re actually in love, you’re not going to give up.”

Yeah, that’s solid advice.

As for whether or not to write a memoir revealing dark secrets about your exes, we have our own advice…

DO IT, CELEBS!

LOLz! This stuff has been SO juicy, we love it! Keep it coming!
