Joanna Johnson, star of The Bold and the Beautiful, has come out as a lesbian!
Way to go, Joanna! Welcome to the world outside of the closet. Enjoy the fresh air.
She was prompted to publicly come out after it was announced that she’ll be playing half of a married lesbian couple. She said:
“There├óΓé¼Γäós a greater intimacy between the viewers and the characters [with soap operas]. They think you are your character. And that creates a lot of fear. Fear of rejection. I was so worried I wouldn├óΓé¼Γäót be employable as an actress if people knew I was a lesbian. Or that I wouldn├óΓé¼Γäót be believable in romance stories. I had to deal with a lot of self-loathing.”
We’re so sad to hear that this was eating her up on the inside but we’re so glad that she’s living loud and proud!
She is married to a club promoter, Michelle Agnew and has two kids, Julian, 5, and Harlow, 2.
She said:
“When I realized I was gay in my early twenties we didn├óΓé¼Γäót have role models like Ellen. I’m not anywhere near as famous as those ladies, but I guess it├óΓé¼Γäós my turn to do my little part. It├óΓé¼Γäós time to live a fully authentic life.”
Way to live your life for you, not society. Hopefully it’ll give others the strength to do the same!
