We’re really hoping John McEnroe isn’t serious!
During an interview with NPR over the weekend, the tennis superstar got on the topic of calling Serena Williams “the best female player in the world,” but he made it all too clear she’s not the best in the world… if she had to be put up against men!

In fact, the 58-year-old went on to add she’d probably be 700th in the world! He explained:
“Best female player ever ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ no question… If she was in, if she played the men’s circuit she’d be like 700 in the world.”
The controversial athlete continued:
“That doesn’t mean I don’t think Serena is an incredible player. I do, but the reality of what would happen would be I think something that perhaps it’d be a little higher, perhaps it’d be a little lower. And on a given day, Serena could beat some players. I believe because she’s so incredibly strong mentally that she could overcome some situations where players would choke ’cause she’s been in it so many times, so many situations at Wimbledon, The U.S. Open, etc. But if she had to just play the circuit ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ the men’s circuit ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ that would be an entirely different story.”
Wowwwww! We’re sure Serena would very much so disagree!
But John kept digging his hole, also adding he had considered playing against the pregnant superstar:
“Well I’ve thought about it. I didn’t really want to do it, personally. I don’t know, people always seemed ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ I would say why don’t they go ask Roger Federer? Or someone, you know they added the old fart that’s you know 25 years over the hill. And I think I can still play and I think I could still ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ I mean my kids don’t think I can beat her anymore. Maybe I should get her now because she’s pregnant, but the truth is that I think that sometimes ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥I don’t know why in tennis, I get it’s that one battle of the sexes when Bobby Riggs played Billie Jean.”
In case you didn’t know, male tennis player Riggs challenged female tennis pro Jean to a match after he said he could beat any female tennis player. Guess what? He was wrong! Billie Jean kicked his ass!

Still, the former tennis great isn’t buying it:
“Maybe at some point a women’s tennis player can be better than anybody. I just haven’t seen it in any other sport, and I haven’t seen it in tennis. I suppose anything’s possible at some stage.”
Smh. Just so he knows, Serena is still playing tennis while pregnant, and she’s doing it fiercely!
To use his own quote against him, “you cannot be serious”!
