JoJo Siwa Says She Felt 'Pressure' From LGBT Community To Label Herself A 'Lesbian'

JoJo Siwa Blames LGBT Community for Lesbian Label amid Chris Hughes romance

Damn. It’s still Pride Month, and yet JoJo Siwa is seemingly celebrating by… blaming the LGBT community for mislabeling her??

The Guilty Pleasure singer shocked fans by going on Celebrity Big Brother UK and finding love with… a straight man. After a situationship had clearly begun to form with castmate Chris Hughes, she declared in a bold moment that she’d just realized she wasn’t a “lesbian,” she was “queer.” Just generally not totally straight — but not necessarily uninterested in men.

Viewers easily interpreted that as her explanation for how she suddenly was into the 32-year-old Love Island alum. But it wasn’t just attraction. She dumped her partner Kath Ebbs immediately when the show ended and shortly afterward went public with her new relationship with Chris.

But in a new interview, she’s spinning the narrative a bit. No longer was this a moment of self-realization on reality TV, now she’s saying she never wanted to call herself a lesbian. She told YOU Magazine on Friday, via DailyMail.com, that it was the LGBT community who wanted to put her in a box. So to speak. She explained:

“When I came out at 17, I said: ‘I’m pansexual, because I don’t care [about gender].’ But then I kind of boxed myself in and I said: ‘I’m a lesbian.’ And I think I did that because of pressure.”

The then-teenaged pop star did make it clear she identified as pansexual when she first came out in 2021. So why did she start calling herself a “lesbian” instead? Where did that “pressure” come from?

“In a weird way, I think it came a little bit from inside the [LGBTQ] community at times. From people I know, from partners I’ve had. You just get put in this world where you feel like, because you now have said, ‘Oh, I’m a lesbian,’ you have to be a lesbian. And the truth is, sexuality is fluid.”

That is true. Sexuality is a big, beautiful fluid rainbow spectrum thingy! We just aren’t sure it’s the best time to say things like the LGBT community made me a lesbian. We know that’s not what she meant, but… kinda?

At the end of the day, it was her own responsibility to define her sexuality how she saw fit. We seem to remember the community embracing her all along the way. Maybe things were different for her behind closed doors. She did mention “partners” being an issue.

Of course, there has been some backlash towards JoJo since this Chris thing. But we think that’s less theoretical and more an execution problem? As in… folks with a bad taste in their mouths about how she emotionally cheated on TV and then dumped her partner?

But JoJo is adamant she did nothing wrong. She even boasted about how her first girlfriend watched CBB and texted her how happy she was that she’d found love there:

“And if even she can be supportive of Christopher and me, then there’s no reason others can’t be!”

As for Kath being upset about how it all went down? JoJo is brushing off her ex completely:

“It’s all good. Sometimes people just like to have a quick bite.”

Damn. OK.

What do YOU think of JoJo’s comments about the LGBTQ community’s support?
