Julianne Hough Shares Cryptic Message About Growing Apart From Loved Ones Amid Marriage Troubles With Brooks Laich

Just like that, our concerns about the future of Julianne Hough and Brooks Laich‘s marriage continue to grow.

On Wednesday, the 31-year-old shared a social media post about growing apart from loved ones that is seriously raising eyebrows, especially since the suspiciously timed message comes amid reports she and her professional hockey player husband have been going through a rough patch lately.

The Dancing with the Stars alum took to her Instagram Story and reposted a quote by psychology writer Heidi Priebe which read:

“To love someone long-term is to attend a thousand funerals of the people they used to be. The people they’re too exhausted to be any longer. The people they don’t recognise inside themselves anymore. The people they grew out of, the people they never ended up growing into. We so badly want the people we love to get their spark back when it burns out; to become speedily found when they are lost.”

The poignant message continued:

“But it is not our job to hold anyone accountable to the people they used to be. It is our job to travel with them between each version and to honour what emerges along the way. Sometimes it will be an even more luminescent flame. Sometimes it will be a flicker that disappears and temporarily floods the room with a perfect and necessary darkness.”

Oof.

All things considered, it’s hard not to think Derek Hough‘s sister is alluding to the current and rocky state of affairs with Brooks.

Is Julianne’s post suggesting she’s grown out of the person she used to be when she tied the knot with Laich back in 2017? More to the point, is she hinting that the spark between them is now gone, too?

The professional dancer could also be calling herself out with this quote; Brooks has been vocal about becoming a better version of himself lately, so, that bit about honoring an individual’s personal growth could be her note to herself to extend kindness to her man.

Either way, sources close to the pair have been painting a bleak picture about what’s supposedly going on behind closed doors.

Earlier this month, an insider told People the 36-year-old former NHL star isn’t giving up on his marriage just yet:

“If it was up to Brooks, he would stay married. And he is obviously still hoping things will work out with Jules.”

The source also commented on how Jules’ free-spirited nature has affected the couple’s dynamic:

“Maybe it’s just a phase, maybe not. But either way they are not going to address it publicly right now.”

Official statement or not, we can certainly read between the lines here. Plus, Brooks has been dropping hints about changes to come on his own social media accounts, too.

As we reported, the athlete has shifted gears and plans to put his personal happiness first going forward! His cryptic IG post, in part, read:

“My new motto. Lately I’ve been re-assessing many things in my life, and one of the most important things I’ve been looking at is how I spend my time every day. I’m redefining my priorities, and putting happiness at the forefront. I’m making changes to my daily routine, and prioritizing the things that bring me the most joy. Everything else lines up behind those.”
