Junie Hoang is the name of the actress who is suing IMDB and Amazon for revealing her age.
In case you haven’t seen such classics as Gingerbread Man 3: Saturday Night Cleaver and Hoodrats 2: Hoodrat Warriors, then you might not be too familiar with her, but according to her IMDB page, she’s been working since she was 16.
She originally filed an anonymous lawsuit, last October but a federal judge ordered that she reveal her identity or else the million-dollar lawsuit would be dismissed.
Hoang claims that after the websites revealed her birth year, telling the world that she’s 40 years old, she says that her movie offers dried up.
The sad part is 40 is considered over the hill by Hollywood standards, especially since only 12.5% of the tv and movie roles go to women over a certain age. But, damn, Junie looks great! We would never guess she would be turning 41 this year – not that it matters – but still. Whatever you’re doing gurl, keep doing it.
The Screen Actors Guild has also issued a statement, applauding Hoang, real name Huang Hoang, for her:
“…determination and courage” in “standing up to fight the unfair and abusive practice of publishing actors├óΓé¼Γäó private information online without their consent.
Thousands of actors have had their careers harmed by the unauthorized publication of their birthdates by IMDb against their wishes. Screen Actors Guild and its members stand in support of efforts to curtail this invasion of privacy done to enhance a corporate balance sheet.”
Meanwhile, her lawyer has also spoken out since Hoang revealed herself:
“We are very disappointed that the judge required the plaintiff to identify herself by name. But her willingness to do so should be a strong indication that my client is willing to see this case to its conclusion however long that road may be.”
If anything, all this media attention has definitely put her name out there so maybe this was a blessing in disguise…
