Kanye West‘s last collaboration with A.P.C. was a huge hit, and this second time will likely be just as successful!
The collection draws inspiration from the military, which probably explains the balaklava (above) for sale as one of the pieces!
Other numbers include more standard but luxurious creations, including a fur-trimmed parka and cargo pants. There’s also a standard white t-shirt for $90, naturally.
It wouldn’t be a true Kanye collection without some crazy expensive basics!
The creative director of the label, Jean Touitou, revealed some inside info on what it was like working with Yeezy.
Regarding his second time working with the rapper, he said:
“The process was easier the second time because we have learned more from each other, and then also we stopped by the military archive. It was surprisingly easier the second time, except at the end.”
Apparently things got complicated when Kanye wanted to make some last-minute changes. Touitou explained:
“What happened at the end is exactly what he does to his own records, so I didn├óΓé¼Γäót take it personally├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥like when it├óΓé¼Γäós something he makes, and ten days before it drops, and then he wants to start from scratch. In music things are so possible, especially with today├óΓé¼Γäós technology, good engineer, good computer, you could stretch time, but in fashion there are so many people involved, from weaving, knitting, choosing the yarn, choosing the color, making the pattern, making the first samples. It├óΓé¼Γäós so much more material, but again, I don├óΓé¼Γäót feel badly about him pushing the limits. So that was the difficulty. But apart from that, it was perfectly easy.”
Yeah, sounds like a breeze!
He also explained how involved the entire process was and how much Kanye contributed, saying:
“Of course he would decide with me on every part of it. We would choose the fabrics and the color and the proportions, sleeves, shoulders, and there were a lot of fittings. It├óΓé¼Γäós not like we want to do a parka, send the pattern to China, and OK we have the parka and I OK it. It├óΓé¼Γäós not like that at all. We produce a first and second sample, a mock sample, a third sample, and finally the last one is good. It├óΓé¼Γäós like a couture piece for every item.”
The new collection will be available on July 17th, but you better get your hands on them now, because this is most likely the last collaboration between Jean and Kanye.
Jean said:
“I├óΓé¼Γäóm tired of collaborating. I├óΓé¼Γäóm tired of it. And there├óΓé¼Γäós not so many people that I want to do anything with. Kanye has his own line with Adidas now. And we do Nike because we don├óΓé¼Γäót know how to do running shoes and they know how to do it right. I don├óΓé¼Γäót have a major collaborating project. But I├óΓé¼Γäóm creating a new brand, and we├óΓé¼Γäóre launching Vanessa Seward in March, launching the brand with a new company and everything.”
