Katharine McPhee is either trying to play coy or turning the other cheek after Chrishell Stause came for her in a SERIOUSLY pointed social media comment!
Buckle up, y’all. We’ve got a very strange celebrity feud brewing…
In case you missed this deliciously messy little Hollywood crossover over the past couple weeks, the drama started after Katharine and hubby David Foster hosted a fundraiser for Spencer Pratt’s Los Angeles mayoral campaign at their Brentwood Park home earlier this month. Yes, really. And because this is 2026 and nothing stays private for more than seven seconds, clips from the event quickly landed all over TikTok.

One video in particular got people talking, too. While Foster played piano in it, the American Idol alum performed Tina Turner’s classic The Best in front of the entire fundraiser audience and cheekily swapped out some lyrics to encourage people to vote for Spencer over current LA political figures and other mayoral candidates Karen Bass and Nithya Raman. That alone was enough to spark chatter online, obvi!
But then… Chrishell entered the conversation and things escalated FAST.
The Selling Sunset star commented on influencer Jordy Cray’s TikTok video that followed up the viral fundraiser clip, and in which Cray spent time discussing Katharine’s history with controversial relationships and political associations. And Chrishell absolutely did not hold back, writing at the time:
“One day she will find her real inner confidence but it won’t come until after she is disregarded enough times by the problematic men she backs.”
Oof!!!
But wait, she wasn’t done! As if to really cap it off, Stause added:
“An insecure woman will steal your man, and give the worst advice.”
DAYUMMMM. Tell us how you really feel, Chrishell!
Naturally, fans immediately wondered whether Katharine would clap back, drop a cryptic quote, or unleash one of those passive-aggressive celebrity social media posts everyone pretends aren’t directed at anyone specific. But instead? She went with confusion. Literal confusion!
After E! News posted about the situation on Instagram, one of their followers asked what exactly Katharine had supposedly said to upset Chrishell in the first place. And Katharine herself jumped into the comments with a response that felt either genuinely clueless or expertly calculated, noting:
“Honestly I have no idea. I am just as confused about this controversy as you lmao ❤️.”
Ha!
Now THAT is an interesting tactic. Is McPhee truly unbothered? Is she pretending not to understand why people are criticizing her?! Or is this one of those classic celebrity moves where playing innocent keeps the drama from spiraling further?? You know fans are divided already!
Of course, the internet quickly revisited Katharine’s past controversies after Chrishell’s remarks went viral. That is because Cray’s original TikTok highlighted several moments from the singer’s history, including her relationship with Foster, who is 35 years older than her and became her husband in 2019. Foster, famously, is also on wife number five with Katharine, so there’s that.

And longtime pop culture followers definitely remember the scandal surrounding Katharine and Smash director Michael Morris back in 2013, as well. At the time, both were married to other people when they were photographed kissing. The images caused a major frenzy back then, so, that’s evidently at least part of why Stause took the angle she did in the first place here. We would presume, at least!
Meanwhile, Chrishell has also made it crystal (pun intended) clear she is not exactly thrilled about Spencer potentially becoming the next mayor of Los Angeles. Earlier this month, she posted this on Threads:
“Can I please implore NO MORE reality star politicians PLEASE! I have nothing against Spencer! In fact I like him on TV! NOT in the government tho CA please pull it together.”
So, perhaps the fact that McPhee and Foster held a swanky fundraiser for him is the thing at the center of this new celeb feud.
Regardless, this burgeoning saga truly has everything: reality stars, political drama, shady comments, old scandals resurfacing, and a celebrity pretending not to know what anyone is talking about.
One thing is for sure, Perezcious readers: Hollywood people never disappoint when it comes to unexpected feuds! LOLz!
