They should get Al Roker and Ryan Gosling for this! LOLz.
It has just been confirmed by Lionsgate that High School Musical/This Is It/Newsies director Kenny Ortega will direct the remake of the 1987 classic Dirty Dancing!
While we’d usually be EVEN MORE skeptical of this, Ortega WAS the guy who choreographed those dirty dance moves for the original film, which makes us think he might treat this one with extra care.
We should also note that Ortega directed two episodes of the short lived Dirty Dancing TV series back in 1988. Did anyone out there ever see that show?
Here’s what Kenny had to say about this major directing opportunity:
“The opportunity to direct DIRTY DANCING is like returning home for me. Growing up in the 60├óΓé¼Γäós on the dance floor helped define me as a person and as an artist. I am looking forward to assembling a great creative team and an exciting cast to bring DIRTY DANCING to the screen for a new generation. Patrick Swayze set the bar for men dancing in the movies as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did before him. I believe everywhere you look there is evidence that the talent is out there and I can├óΓé¼Γäót wait to begin the process of discovering the next breakout triple-threats.”
“I want to thank writer/producer Eleanor Bergstein for originally choosing me to choreograph ├óΓé¼┼ôDirty Dancing├óΓé¼┬¥ and for her continuous support. I├óΓé¼Γäóm thrilled to once again be working with my friend and producing partner Debra Martin Chase. My deep appreciation to Alli Shearmur, Joe Drake, and everyone at Lionsgate for their enthusiasm to make the film and for their confidence in me to helm the project.”
What do U think about this big announcement? Is Kenny Ortega the right guy for the gig? Or should they leave Dirty Dancing alone???
