Kim Kardashian Reveals She 'Cried All The Way Home' After 2013 Met Gala Over Memes About Her Infamous Floral Dress

KKW recalls crying after the 2013 Met Gala.

Even someone as fashion-forward as Kim Kardashian West has more than a few regrets when it comes to some of her style choices from the past.

In a new video interview with Vogue, the 39-year-old reflected on some of her best and worst outfits to date — and in the clip, KKW gets refreshingly honest about one of the most talked-about looks; y’all remember that floral-print “couch” dress she wore to the 2013 Met Gala?

For our readers who might’ve forgotten, the KUWTK star attended the prestigious event as husband Kanye West‘s plus-one and sported the custom made Givenchy maternity gown as she was very pregnant with their first child, North, at the time.

The momma-of-four recalled feeling super insecure about her body at the star-studded party, noting:

“I was very pregnant, very puffy and bloated and I was like, ‘Oh god, of course the first time I go I’m gonna be huge. Kanye [West] was performing so I wasn’t actually invited, I was just Kanye’s plus one. And that was okay with me because I never really dreamed I would be at the Met Ball. I know no one really probably wanted me there at the time.”

Kim said she went back and forth with designer Riccardo Tisci on whether or not to take a fashion risk that night, adding there was actually an all-black version of the dress she ended up wearing:

“We chose a really stretchy fabric because I would be growing and we wanted to make sure that alterations were easy and it was comfortable. I was like, ‘I think I should just do the black version,’ and Riccardo was like, ‘No, c’mon, we have to do the floral. Riccardo said afterwards, ‘What do you give a woman who is pregnant? You send her flowers.’”

The starlet explained she was still on the fence about it but, and felt she “could never really speak up at that point” because she was “shy” and wanted to make everyone happy — especially Vogue‘s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, who had made it clear she preferred the floral option.

Unfortunately for Mrs. West, the public had a field day with the outfit after pics of her walking the red carpet surfaced online:

“I think Robin Williams even tweeted it, said I looked like Mrs. Doubtfire. I was crying the whole way home because I just couldn’t believe it.”

Awww…

This is actually pretty sad to hear! And, it’s kind of cringeworthy when you take a step back and realize people were legitimately making fun of a pregnant woman’s size like it was nothing.

Of course, most of the jokes were about the dress itself, but the infamous “couch” reference definitely suggested Kim looked really big.

Luckily, there were two very important people who did like Skims creator’s ensemble right away: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

“I just remember the Olsen twins came up to me and loved my outfit and my gloves, so none of the critics mattered because the Olsen twins approved.”

Additionally, she said people think her outfit was “sick” now that time has passed.

Hindsight is really 20/20, we guess!

Quite the interesting interview, indeed!! And we have to say, like her or not — Kim K is definitely a trendsetter!

As for the memes, this isn’t the first time Kardashian-West has opened up about ’em but we’d like to think she has much thicker skin now. Hey, if she and her sisters could have themselves a good laugh over Kylie Jenner‘s viral meme moment this year with “Rise and Shine,” then hopefully she can take a jab or two, herself!
