Look, we all know the anti-gay marriage clock is ticking.
We know equality (hey, what a great American concept) will soon prevail over the shrinking cloud of homophobia that rains on its followers.
Regardless, NOM (or National Organization for Marriage) hired Kirk Cameron to preach his infamous views on marriage — that unless it’s a straight union, it’s destined for doom! (above)
You know we’ve expressed our views on Kirk’s contradictory statements before, the ones that aid in hindering American equality anyways.
But we thought you might like to know what GLAAD thinks about all of this. They recently released a statement, saying:
“Kirk Cameron and the anti-gay activists at NOM are making a claim that Americans know to be false. This rhetoric won’t work anymore.
Communities across this country love and cherish their LGBT neighbors, friends and family members. This includes people in families headed by LGBT people.
Their implication that LGBT couples can’t create loving and stable homes is not only outdated and irrelevant; it’s designed specifically to hurt those families.“
Exactly.
Kirk and NOM are entitled to their opinions. They can preach the greatness of being straight to their followers. No problem at all! When they knock gay marriages, however… that’s when it becomes problematic.
But quite frankly, it’s just an old joke at this point. Like we said, we know it’s only a matter of time before gay youth can feel safe at school. Before gay couples can enjoy marriage longer than celebrities. And before people like Kirk, hopefully, see the real light of love.
