Kristi Noem, who is married, is out and Corey Lewandowski, who is also married, isn’t far behind her.
Last week, Donald Trump announced that just a little over a year after appointing Kristi as his Secretary of Homeland Security, she was FIRED from the position. The decision came on the heels of a series of disastrous and deadly ICE controversies and a slew of controversies under her leadership, all resulting in a train wreck of testimony before the House Judiciary Committee. Trump announced on Truth Social Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma would be replacing her in the DHS role:
“The current Secretary, Kristi Noem, who has served us well, and has had numerous and spectacular results (especially on the Border!), will be moving to be Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas, our new Security Initiative in the Western Hemisphere we are announcing on Saturday in Doral, Florida. I thank Kristi for her service at ‘Homeland.’”
Despite his seemingly nice words, the President was reportedly highly unhappy with Kristi, especially in the aftermath of her deposition.

During said testimony, part of what Kristi was grilled on was the ongoing rumor that she and Corey, whom she appointed as chief advisor of the DHS, had been entwined in a secret affair behind the scenes. Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove asked her point blank if she “had sexual relations with Corey Lewandowski,” which she deflected as “tabloid garbage.”
“I am shocked we’re going down and peddling tabloid garbage in this committee.”
The 54-year-old went on to undersell Corey’s influence at the DHS:
“He is a special government employee who works for the White House. There are thousands of them in the federal government.”
But Kamlager-Dove wasn’t about to let her deflect! She pressed on, asserting:
“It is okay for you to be offended by the question. But it is also a real question. You should be able to answer the question clearly and without hesitation. If someone is asking if you or any federal official is sleeping with their subordinate, that should be the easiest question — you should be wanting to answer that question. Because it is not about your sex life. It is about your judgment and decision making. It is about the 260,000 employees that work under you, that want to make sure you are giving information and making decisions clearly. It is about conflict of interest. It is about security risk.”

And despite Kristi’s pitiful attempt to downplay her rumored lover’s role, it’s been widely reported that his influence looms large behind the scenes. In a report published by The New Republic, officials referred to him as the department’s “shadow” while Kristi served as the very public face. But that’s all changing now…
After Kristi’s departure, several outlets reported Corey is RIGHT behind her, marking the third time Trump has cut ties. Prior to his position at the DHS, Corey served as Trump’s campaign manager in 2016, but was fired months before the election. He later returned to the President’s circle, but was once again fired in 2021 after a sexual misconduct scandal.
On Thursday, an administration official told the New York Post:
“The end of Corey Lewandowski’s reign represents a return to responsible and accountable governance. The nation welcomes Senator [Markwayne] Mullin’s nomination.”
A White House official added they “don’t know who would want him” after Markwayne takes office later this month.
