Co-parenting is never easy, and for Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler, it remains an uphill battle!
On Monday’s episode of the Dumb Blonde podcast with host Bunnie Xo, the reality star opened up about how things are going with her ex-husband, with whom she shares kids Camden, 12, Jaxon, 10, and Saylor, 9. Despite having been separated since 2020, Kristin said Jay has brought “zero f**king consistency” to their co-parenting dynamic, she shared:
“[It’s] really hard. It has not been easy to say the least.”
Oof. It must not help that he’s been getting in legal trouble, either!

She went on to explain just how much of a “bumpy road” it’s been. Recalling a rare moment of reconciliation, she shared that they were able to be together without issue at an event earlier this year, noting:
“We sat together at a basketball game earlier in the year, and I was like, ‘Holy f**k, this is the best thing that’s ever happened. Jesus Christ, we made it. We can sit next to each other.’ And we haven’t sat together since, so I don’t f**king know. What the f**k?”
Aw, man. What a letdown. It’s unclear why they haven’t been able to sit together again, but it’s clear they just aren’t getting along great — so much so that she didn’t think they’d be able to spend the holidays together with their kids in the future! Like, EVER? Whoa. That shows how tense things are right now.
Not having a “family unit” during Christmas “bums [her] out sometimes,” but she doesn’t want the NFL star back, The Hills alum noted:
“Coming from divorced parents, the last thing I ever wanted was a divorce. I won’t lie to you. […] That still will creep up once in a while. […] It just sucks that we’re not together as a family.”
All that said, the Uncommon James founder said she wanted to be “really careful” about how she spoke about the athlete since she “made a vow that [she] was done talking about him.” But, of course, she couldn’t completely stop talking about him! Discussing their “toxic” romance, she continued:
“I don’t regret a damn thing.”
Why? She pointed out:
“There is so much good that came out of our relationship.”
Their kids, for instance!
However, the 37-year-old can now see she basically fell for the same kind of person as her “narcissistic” father, saying that she was just “repeating a pattern with [her] dad” when she got together with Jay, expressing:
“That’s what you do. I ended up marrying my dad.”
Later, she called Jay a “pathological liar” — especially after he spent years denying rumors he had an affair with her ex-friend and Very Cavallari co-star Kelly Henderson. The Laguna Beach star dished:
“I really don’t think anything happened. F**k, I don’t know to be honest with you. Do I know for sure? No.”
How awful that must be to not really know! That said, it’s probably just one of many things Jay left her questioning following the split. She explained:
“Jay used to trash her which I now sort of think if a guy is trashing a girl, there is probably something going on. When you’re dealing with a pathological liar, it’s hard to know what the f**king truth is.”
She furthered:
“There are things from my marriage that I will never know, and I’ve just sort of had to let that go. I’m over it now.”
She also noted she “never did [get an apology] and never will” from her ex but “can have empathy and forgive” him. She concluded:
“People who are lying to you or are cheating, that’s because they’re hurt. That’s about them. That has nothing to do with me.”
A great perspective! Hear her full conversation (below):
She’s clearly put in the work to process this relationship and move on. Impressive! But it stinks that co-parenting hasn’t been easy!!
