Kyle MacLachlan Didn't Know Showgirls Would Suck Become 'A Camp Classic'

Kyle McLachlan thought showgirls would be good
Kyle MacKachlan has had a pretty notable career after starring in a string of David Lynch‘s greatest hits, along with Desperate Housewives and Sex and the City, but we think his greatest accomplishment is easily Showgirls!
The actor recently reflected on his career and revealed that the notorious cinematic bomb “came as a surprise” after watching the final cut.
He was surprised because the entire cast and filmmakers took the movie incredibly seriously, as MacLachlan explained:

“We all went into it with absolute conviction. Had we gone into it thinking we were making a camp classic we’d have ruined the camp element. It had to be taken seriously as we were filming it. Only when it was assembled and I saw it for the first time, I thought, ‘Oh boy, this isn’t going to be pretty’.”

Yeah, we can’t imagine taking a role completely seriously and then discovering that the movie became an unintentional comedy. LOL!
Since he was working with two major Hollywood hot shots, Kyle wasn’t too worried about how the film would turn out either, as he continued:

“I went into that film with the best of intentions. Paul Verhoeven (director) and Joe Eszterhas (writer) were at the top of their game and I trusted they├óΓé¼Γäód deliver something that would be controversial and hard-hitting. It turned into something completely different. The fun of it is it├óΓé¼Γäós found its own niche in an unexpected way. People still get a kick out of it. I remember the experience and kind of laugh at the movie. At the time, the finished film came as a surprise.”

At least he’s able to look back and laugh about the catastrophe. Particularly when he’s banging Elizabeth Berkley in the hot tub! Ha!
