Lady GaGa Reveals Her Aunt & Grandma Didn't Know She Was Raped Until Her Oscar Performance -- Details Here

Lady GaGa‘s performance of Til It Happens To You at the Oscars on Sunday, was very emotional and touching for everyone watching as it shined a light on the topic of rape and sexual assault.
Of course, the number was especially moving for the victims that joined the singer on stage, and even for GaGa herself.
That’s because back in 2014, the Grammy award winner revealed that she had been raped when she was only 19 years old.

Though several people knew about the terrible incident after the blonde beauty opened up about her experience, apparently not everyone in GaGa’s family knew. Whoa!
The Born This Way singer took to Twitter and Instagram to share that both her Aunt and Grandma had no idea that Lady was a victim until her incredible performance at the awards show.
The 29-year-old posted:

My grandmother (in the middle) and my Aunt Sheri (on the right) both called me the day after the Oscars because I never told them I was a survivor. I was too ashamed. Too afraid. And it took me a long time to even admit it to myself because I’m Catholic and I knew it was evil but I thought it was my fault. I thought it was my fault for ten years. The morning after the Oscars when I talked to my grandmother Ronnie, with tears in her eyes I could hear them welling through the phone she said to me “My darling granddaughter, I’ve never been more proud of you than I am today.” Something I have kept a secret for so long that I was more ashamed of than anything– became the thing the women in my life were the most proud of. We can’t imagine how hard it was for GaGa’s Aunt and Grandma to find out, but we’re sure it’s a relief for the singer to finally have her family in the know.
