Kate and Laura Mulleavy aka the designing sisters that make up Rodarte are spilling the deets on those amazing tutus they created for Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan.
Laura says constructing the 40 costumes for Natalie Portman and the rest of the cast was difficult:
“A tutu is 13 layers of tulle sticking straight out and then it├óΓé¼Γäós over the body, so you can imagine. It├óΓé¼Γäós crazy! Building a tutu is one of the lost couture arts. Everyone will know it├óΓé¼Γäós like getting your hand on the prize, like a coveted piece of couture that no one ever gets to see. You can├óΓé¼Γäót go rent a tutu. You have to own it├óΓé¼┬ªThey├óΓé¼Γäóre never actually perfect, but from afar, when you├óΓé¼Γäóre in the audience, it looks like one of the most beautiful things in the world.”
We’re sure all that hard work paid off and we can’t wait to see them on the big screen!
