To this day, Leslie Jones cannot stand a certain director from Saturday Night Live!
During an interview on the Toure Show podcast over the weekend, the comedian looked back on a recurring SNL sketch she did with castmate Kyle Mooney years ago. You know, the one that followed a fake romantic relationship between the two *behind the scenes*? Sorry to disappoint fans, but Leslie? She “hated it from the beginning.” We’re not sure why she agreed to it in the first place, but she says it was an awful idea. She thinks the entire joke was just the contrast in their physical appearances, which she finds offensive.
It sounds like Leslie thinks she was maybe being used as a punchline for Kyle and his pals. We definitely didn’t read it that way… but we understand where she’s coming from!
But we guess it was a hit with the audience because they kept doing them! And that was bad news for the Supermarket Sweep host — not just because she doesn’t like the sketches. She absolutely despises the director who worked on ’em!

In her podcast convo, Leslie opens up about growing to hate the unnamed director — and reveals she even almost got into a physical altercation with him! That’s how bad it was to work with the “narcissistic d**khead,” as she called him! Looking directly at the camera, Leslie says:
“The guy who would direct those was a f**king a**hole, and I don’t give a f**k if you see this. You was a f**king — you still are probably a f**king d**khead. A f**king narcissistic d**khead.”
DAMN!
What the heck happened with him? According to Leslie, nothing serious — but “he was just a f**king a**hole.” She continued:
“Just like one of them white boys who thought he’s doing f**king Shakespeare. No! This is a f**king sketch. You’re not funny, and you’re not creating nothing beautiful. You’re just being an a**hole with this tedious f**k s**t. I can’t explain it. It’s like a way a person can look at you that you’re just like, ‘Yeah, I know you’re calling me a n*****. I know you’re calling me a n*****.’ Cause he was a Mormon too. So he would just do little f**king antsy a**hole shit.”
WHOA! She really thought this guy was thinking that? So messed up!
Eventually, Leslie said the situation got to a point where she and Tiffany Haddish “almost beat him up” one night! Whoa! Just to give you a timeline, this would have happened in November 2017. That was when Tiffany hosted SNL for the first and only time. The sketch in question is “Kyle & Beck” — a sketch where Beck Bennett tries to break up the relationship between Kyle and Leslie. Watch (below):
The Ghostbusters star recalled she and Kyle worked on a sketch where they got married, and things had been running late on Friday night, which was already frustrating enough since they had a busy schedule ahead of them the following day — AKA show day. However, her aggravation grew as it neared 2 a.m., and they had to wait for creator Lorne Michaels to shoot a pretape. However, Leslie was ready to leave at that point:
“It was so annoying. He comes to the back because I was like, ‘Yo I’m going home. Y’all done had me here since 4:00. I gotta come to work tomorrow. I’m in this big wedding dress. I cut my arm with the wire that was in there so my hand’s bleeding and s**t.’ I’m like, ‘Nah, I’m going home.’”
Well, the director didn’t like what she had to say! Leslie recalled:
“This motherfucker was like, ‘What makes you so f**king special?’ And I was like, ‘Who the f**k you talkin’ to?’ ‘You! I’m talking to you! What makes you so f**king special like Lorne is this this and this.’ I said, ‘Motherf**ker, I know you not f**king talking to me. What makes me special is that the f**king sketch is about me and Kyle! Not you! So what the f**k!?”
The situation got super heated as he continued to go off on her. Leslie yelled at him to “step off” and walk away before things got physical, but he wouldn’t. So Tiffany got involved! She came storming out of her dressing room, ready to back her up! Jeez!
Thankfully, no one actually got violent. And the crazy thing? The show must go on! So Leslie and this director still had to work together on the segment afterward to get it done! She said:
“Do you know we still had to go and shoot after that? So this motherf**ker would come over and try to give a direction. I’d be like, ‘Don’t you put your motherf**king hand on me!’ and then the camera would come on. So every time they put up that picture cause it’s so beautiful, I’d be like, ‘That night was crazy.’”
It sounds like it! But all we want to know is: Who was this director?! Leslie wasn’t afraid to share her honest feelings, but she didn’t say his name! However, she described him as someone taller than her and having a large “Adam’s apple.” And we know which sketches she said he directed, so…
Given the details of the story and the credits on the episode she was talking about… it’s believed she’s talking about Emma Stone’s husband, Dave McCary! Whoa!

He was a segment director and writer for SNL at the time. He, Kyle, and Beck are friends and often worked together on skits, even before SNL. He directed almost all of their sketches. He also fits the physical description, so he’s almost certainly the guy Leslie is talking about! And oh boy, does she have some strong opinions about him! Yikes! Watch her recall the story about the director (below):
At this time, neither Dave nor Emma has reacted to what Leslie had to say. But what are YOUR thoughts? Let us know in the comments!
