Liam Payne Left Girlfriend 'In Tears' By Going 'Off The Rails' The Month Before He Died

Immediately following the shock of Liam Payne‘s death last year came the big questions. How could this have happened? Who was with him?

Those questions have led to multiple arrests already in Buenos Aires, where he fell from his hotel balcony. Those that allegedly supplied him drugs or left him alone while in danger.

But fans were also surprised to learn his girlfriend had been with him… but had just left days earlier. Kate Cassidy was staying in Argentina with Liam for two weeks but eventually flew home to Miami, Florida. It was after she left that he got out of control, falling off the wagon, calling up escorts.

Kate has made clear she didn’t know what was going on with him, denying rumors she left because they were fighting. She said in her first interview last week she’d just gone home to take care of their rescue dog Nala. He wasn’t on drugs, wasn’t out of control, until after she left.

But he had been the month before, sources say.

In an interview with DailyMail.com, Roger Nores — Liam’s friend but also one of those folks Buenos Aires police brought in — said he started using again while filming that Netflix Building the Band show. That was in August. When that wrapped, Liam and Kate went on vacation to Greece for a couple weeks — during which, says Roger, he was abusing drugs the entire time.

Another insider — purportedly a friend of hers — told the outlet it was a nightmare for the model:

“Kate would ring me in tears. She was stuck in a foreign country and Liam was completely off the rails. They put out smiling images on Instagram for the fans, but the reality couldn’t have been more different.”

Whoa. Here’s a video he posted from that vacay btw — he doesn’t look terrible, but he doesn’t look… great.

So what happened between Greece and Argentina? How did she get to thinking he as fine? According to Roger, that September he came back to the US and once again got clean. Under Roger’s watchful eye, that is. Hmm. He even emailed Liam’s team, writing:

“Liam arrived in the US a few days ago and he is living at the house he is renting … I happen to be staying close by and saw Liam a couple of times over the last few days … My understanding is he hasn’t touched a single hard drug since he came back to the US.”

But by the end of that month they left for Buenos Aires. And eventually… The rest is tragic history.

It just seems the more we learn, the more we realize how much of a razor’s edge he was on. We had no idea.
