Liam Payne Seemed 'Happy & Healthy' During Last Visit With Son Bear, Says Source -- And Rehab

Liam Payne was doing well for what is believed to be his last visit with his son.

On Saturday, a source opened up to The Sun about how Liam’s baby momma Cheryl Cole is doing in light of his tragic death on Wednesday. Earlier this week, the Girls Aloud member broke her silence on the loss, calling it an “earth shattering event.”

As she grappled with her 7-year-old son Bear‘s reality of growing up without a father, she also begged for the public to stop spreading “troubling” reports that her son would one day have access to, reminding everyone the singer was “a human being.” It’s clearly been a really emotional time for her, but thankfully, she is surrounded by loved ones.

Speaking to the outlet, the confidant explained that she has her mother by her side at her Buckinghamshire home. Her friends, including bandmates Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts, are supporting her. The insider shared:

“She’s got her mum with her a lot, and especially now she’s there. There’s been people visiting, flowers have been delivered. But [Cheryl] has not come out [of her home].”

The insider also claimed the last time the One Direction star had seen his son was in early September when he visited the little boy. He was reportedly looking “happy and healthy” at the time, a source recalled:

“He looked really happy and at peace here, and even though [Liam and Cheryl] weren’t together, they looked like they were doing great at co parenting and doing the best for the child. He was very involved. Sometimes he’s done with the school run as well. He seemed really lovely and caring with his son.”

It’s always been so clear how much Liam loved his son. It’s heartbreaking that the duo won’t get more time together — but at least he was seemingly in a good headspace the last time they were together. Sadly, Liam’s long-standing issues with addiction and mental health struggles started to get the better of him in his final few days, it would seem.

Another source for The Sun told the outlet on Friday that in an effort to be a better parent to his son, the Teardrops artist checked into rehab at The Priory in late July, but he quit just days later. An insider claimed he was supposed to take part in a 28-day addiction therapy program, but he walked out 48 hours after arriving. The confidant claimed:

“He gave it a go at overcoming his addictions once and for all. He really wanted to get his life on track. All his loved ones were rooting for him. There was dismay when he managed just 48 hours of treatment. He bravely sought help but couldn’t stay the course.”

He reportedly wanted to beat his addictions for himself, his child, and his family, and that’s why he signed up for rehab in London and started a strict detox program. He also reportedly began taking chlordiazepoxide, a med used to treat symptoms of withdrawing from alcohol and drugs. But sources said he hardly left his room and didn’t attend classes with others before eventually leaving early.

Family and those in his inner circle were trying hard to get him the help he needed, the source added:

“Family and management did everything they could. Liam was loved, adored and incredibly talented. But he just couldn’t beat his demons. It got so bad that last year management begged him not to drive, it was dangerous. Loved ones hid his keys but he just bought another car. There is some solace in his loved ones knowing he was aware how much everyone was rooting for him. He confronted his issues head-on, hoping to get back on track.”

The 31-year-old had successfully completed a 100-day program last year. Sounds like his loved ones did everything they could. Our hearts go out to his family and friends as they process this sad loss.
