One of the last people to ever speak to Liam Payne is sharing some haunting details about his “disturbing” final moments.
Fans were devastated this week when news broke the singer died at just 31 years old on Wednesday. It was even worse when they learned he jumped from the fourth-story balcony of his room at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The act — one of intentional self-harm or not, we still don’t know — shocked the world.
But as we previously reported, a 911 call placed by the hotel’s chief receptionist revealed staff members were concerned about Liam’s safety because, they said, he had “too many drugs and alcohol” and was acting erratically. Witnesses even told TMZ he smashed his own laptop at one point and had to be carried back to his room — which he trashed.

Now, a hotel guest who witnessed some of this troubling behavior less than an hour before Liam died is recounting her own encounter with him. She even captured and shared haunting pictures of Liam. Wow. A woman identifying herself only as Rebecca told Dailymail.com on Friday she was at the hotel for a wedding. She claimed Liam was supposed to check out on Wednesday morning as her friend booked the suite after him, but he still had not done so by the late afternoon:
“One of my friends was due to get his suite, so the hotel staff were a little on edge because he still hadn’t checked out at 4.30pm, but also because of his behaviour.”
When Rebecca arrived at the hotel, she instantly spotted Liam. She said he was at the elevator, appearing so “desperate” for someone to notice him:
“I came into the hotel, and he was waiting by the elevator, and it was so clear he wanted someone to recognise him, there was something a bit desperate about him. I was with my friends and we did know who he was, but none of us were that bothered. When the lift came he suddenly said to us without any prompting: ‘Yes, I’m Liam!’ really drawing it out, and then said ‘All right come on you lot, get in the elevator with me, I love a cuddle.’”
Well, Rebecca wasn’t down for that. She decided not to step on the elevator — but her friends did. She recalled her pals’ experience, saying:
“I decided against it and waited for the next one, but some of the other girls got in with him and half way up, he started saying ‘Oh, you’re Americans, I live in West Palm Beach. I know Americans. You guys are f**king crazy! You guys are f**king dangerous!’”
Things then took a very concerning turn from there. Rebecca claimed Liam then “grabs a girl who I think was with him and starts fake choking her, only lightly, but the others thought it was really disturbing.” Whoa!
Rebecca said she returned to the lobby ten minutes later. Liam also came back down shortly afterwards, sat on a couch, and began to read emails. When the Strip That Down artist read one of the messages, per Rebecca, he freaked out. That’s when he began smashing his laptop, as another report previously mentioned:
“I have a blind relative and I realised he had the laptop on its accessibility setting, for some reason, so that each time he moved the mouse, hovering over something the machine spoke out loud to say where the cursor was. I assumed he was doing that for the attention too. Then he opened his emails and saw one which obviously upset him. Suddenly he took the computer, shouted ‘f**k this s**t mate!’ and started bashing the computer on the ground.”
Damn…
Liam Payne told me 'I used to be in a boy band…that's why I'm so f****d up' minutes before he died. One of the last people to see One Direction star alive tells her astonishing story https://t.co/fnwtHTIpKV pic.twitter.com/wyfTa2LQjC

Did the email have something to do with Universal Music Group dropping him? Or the legal drama with his ex-fiancée Maya Henry? Hmm. We may never know since it was apparently bad enough for him to destroy the damned thing. According to Rebecca, his intense reaction “shocked” everyone, “especially the staff.” Instead of avoiding Liam afterward, she decided to check on him. That was sweet. However, what he said to her next is shocking — and has to do with his time in One Direction. Rebecca said:
“I went over, asked ‘are you OK?’ But he just kind of grunted. Then he said ‘I used to be in a boyband. That’s why I’m so f**ked up.”
Oof. Per the outlet, this comment came at around 4:26 p.m. local time — roughly a half hour before the tragedy. It’s hard to hear he was struggling so much leading up to his death. Rebecca also was surprised, noting she “couldn’t believe he’d just come out and said something like that.” She continued:
“There was a lot more swearing and he took the laptop over and went to get back in the lift. After he’d gone, the guy from his entourage, who I think was called Roger, came over and apologised on his behalf, saying ‘I’m sorry, he just gets so high sometimes.’ I did wonder what these people with him were doing to help him, but maybe they had tried and failed.”
It was at that point hotel staffers were concerned enough to contact the police:
“The hotel staff were freaking out and watching him really nervously. I could see one of them was on the phone to what I assumed was security or the police. I’ve never taken cocaine, but he was behaving exactly as I’d imagine someone would on the drug – he wasn’t focusing, and his pupils were dilated, and he was behaving in aggressive way – though not to anyone in particular.”
It is important to note that the toxicology report has not yet been released. But photos taken of his hotel room showed traces of white powder on the floor in the living area, burnt aluminum foil, a green lighter, and more. The authorities have not confirmed what the substances found in the room are, but there’s a chance it could be cocaine, La Nacion reported. But again, nothing has been confirmed on that matter.
After a few minutes, Rebecca said Liam returned to the lobby, “tripped and fell flat on his face, sprawling across the floor.” OMG. She continued:
“The staff came to help him and get him back in the elevator, and that’s when I took the last photo. You can just see the arm of the English guy who was with him, holding the lift door open before taking them up to the third floor again.”
It wasn’t long afterward that Liam jumped off his balcony and fell to the pool deck below. Police arrived shortly after, and at first Rebecca thought they were there “to kick him out.” However, she said that “when the staff started running around like crazy, we suddenly realised the seriousness of what had happened.” Some of her friends knew what happened, though. Unfortunately, a few of them witnessed the “awful” tragedy:
“Some of my friends had seen him falling, it was awful, and at first they thought he might have just injured himself, but then we saw the body out in the courtyard, and later they brought him out on a stretcher, it was all so horrible.”
We cannot imagine how she and her friends must be feeling after witnessing such terrible moments. Just heartbreaking…
