July 24, 2012 will live in tabloid infamy as the day Kristen Stewart‘s affair with her married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders came to light.
It was a cray cray time we won’t soon forget, but the person hit hardest by the affair, Rupert’s model and actress ex-wife Liberty Ross, has finally moved on.
With over a year gone by since the whole sordid mess hit the fan, the 35-year-old is opening up to Vanity Fair about the ordeal and how she got through it.
In the mag’s December issue, she describes the tumultuous experience, saying:
“It was horrible. It was really the worst, really the worst. I have no words to describe what we went through. But I think, for me, something always has to completely die for there to be a rebirth. And, for me, I feel like I├óΓé¼Γäóm going through a rebirth.”
Rupert apparently confessed about the affair a day before the photos were published all over the world. Liberty’s brother, Atticus Ross, recalled the preparation before the storm:
“It was fucking crazy. To some extent at that moment, Rupert was in denial, and Liberty didn├óΓé¼Γäót know what was going to happen…. I├óΓé¼Γäóm texting people because I know this is going to be huge. I knew this had all the makings of what our world has become. This is going to be fucking big, and Liberty needs to be protected. It was about it not destroying [Liberty]. I don├óΓé¼Γäót think people understand what being in the eye of that storm is like.”
Atticus turned to Jimmy Iovine, who in turn put Liberty in touch with a veteran PR woman who would be able to provide advice and guidance on how to cope with everything.
This may have been the spark that kindled their romance!
Meanwhile, a friend of Atticus graciously gave Liberty access to her coastal home so she could have some privacy. Liberty said:
“I was able to be there completely secluded. I just visualized [being] this sort of Masai warrior. I was just going to stand very still and very strong, and just let it all roll past me. I tried to keep as far away from it as I could and to understand that this is my family and it├óΓé¼Γäós the most precious thing to me.”
The model also admits she felt that things were kind of rocky before the affair, saying:
“I knew that I wasn├óΓé¼Γäót feeling 100 percent right. I found myself on a roller coaster, like, I├óΓé¼Γäóm going to keep things moving, keep things going. I├óΓé¼Γäóm going to keep up this amazing [fa├â┬ºade], everyone looking at me and Rupert, thinking, Oh, wow, you guys have it all├óΓé¼┬ª. Really, I had times when I felt very lonely, very disconnected from Rupert. We├óΓé¼Γäód lost our real connection.”
Despite Rupert’s attempts at getting back together, Liberty knew it was time to cut her losses. She said:
“I├óΓé¼Γäóm not a quitter. I├óΓé¼Γäóve done everything I could to be the perfect wife and mother and really support my husband. But I just didn├óΓé¼Γäót have any more to give, you know?”
We don’t blame you one bit, Liberty! You made the right choice!
