In a recent interview, Lorde talked about the process of coming up with new music, and the pressure to make sure it sounds like something completely new:

“I├óΓé¼Γäóm definitely writing new stuff. I don├óΓé¼Γäót know how everything will end up. The first period of writing after you have recorded an album, it all sounds like the album before it. I├óΓé¼Γäóm trying to get that out of my system and move it to a new place. But I├óΓé¼Γäóve been writing with some good people and just doing weird, cool stuff — which is always good for being creative.”
