During the famous Iditarod Trail Race, a giant sled dog race in Alaska, a sweet nine-year-old sled dog named May got lost!!
When her musher got entangled with another racer during the 1,049 mile race, May was separated from her team and got lost.
After realizing she was gone, rescuers went out on foot and by plane to try and find the pup, but couldn’t do it.
It was assumed she was killed by wolves.
But this story has a happy ending├óΓé¼┬ª May showed up at the race’s starting line six days later!! That’s a 400-mile trip!
A veteran sled dog musher said:
“Everybody who has a dog has a tendency to think these sled dogs are poodles or something, and they├óΓé¼Γäóre not. These are absolutely incredible athletes, and they have the internal drive of an athlete. She knows, ‘Well, I came from here, so let├óΓé¼Γäós go.’ It just shows the determination of those guys.”
We’re so glad she made it back home!
Aside from some weight loss and a minor injury to one paw, she’s totally fine!
Way to go, May!! Glad you’re safe!
