Louis Tomlinson Talks Experiencing A 'Dark Side' & Hitting 'Rock Bottom' After Loss Of Mother And Sister

louis tomlinson explains loss of sister and mother

Louis Tomlinson is ready to talk about the family tragedies he’s experienced over the last two years.

Speaking to The Guardian in a new interview, the 27-year-old bared his heart about what he’s gone through since losing his mother Johannah Deakin to leukemia in December 2016, and younger sister Félicité Tomlinson after an accidental drug overdose in March of this year.

The former One Direction member shared with the publication:

“That whole dark side I’ve gone through, it sounds stupid to say, but it gives me strength everywhere else in my life because that’s the darkest s**t that I’m going to have to deal with. So it makes everything else, not feel easier and not less important, but, in the grand scheme of things, you see things for what they are, I suppose.”

Even though he’s experienced such profound losses within such a short period of time, the musician felt he’s gotten stronger because of it:

“I’ve been to rock bottom and I feel like, whatever my career’s going to throw in front of me, it’s going to be nothing as big or as emotionally heavy as that. So, weirdly, I’ve turned something that’s really dark into something that empowers me, makes me stronger. I don’t want people to feel sorry for me. That’s not how I feel for myself. Somehow it fuels me.”

He continued, explaining he’s relied heavily on the support of his fan base, especially after losing his mom:

“I’m sure every artist says this, but I do believe it. We’ve been through some dark times together and those things I’ve been through, they carry a weight, emotionally, on the fans as well. And I felt their love and support. I remember really clearly when I lost my mum, that support was mad.”

While the overwhelming popularity of the boy band was difficult at time for Tomlinson and bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Liam Payne, there was a lot more Directioners did for him:

“There was much more positive that outweighed that. So many people have bulls**tted about what they feel about the fans, but they’re like family to me.”

However, fans took things a bit too far for Tomlinson’s liking with the rumor of a sexual relationship between him and Mr. Styles! It even triggered a story line in HBO‘s drama series Euphoria about “Larry Stylinson,” AKA the nickname for the imagined, relationship between the two former bandmates by a fanfic writer.

While the Back to You artist is wary of adding “fuel to the fire” by discussing it, he shares:

“I know, culturally, it’s interesting, but I’m just a bit tired of it. Again, I get the cultural intention behind that. But I think … It just felt a little bit … No, I’m not going to lie, I was pissed off. It annoyed me that a big company would get behind it.”

That settles it! No relationship to see here, folks!!

So, what’s next for Louis? His debut album will be released in 2020, and he still thinks a 1D reunion could happen down the road! The artist explains where the relationship stands today with his four former bandmates:

“We’re not texting each other every day, but what we do have, which will never go away, is this real brothership. We’ve had these experiences that no one else can relate to.”

Sending you nothing but love, Louis!!
