Olivia Wilde is looking back on her relationship with Harry Styles.
On Wednesday’s episode of Call Her Daddy, the 42-year-old actress got candid about her relationship with the former One Direction member. If you’ll recall, she and Harry dated for nearly two years, and met while working on Don’t Worry Darling together in 2021. But sadly, their relationship came to an abrupt end, reportedly when their schedules got in the way — Harry with his career, and Olivia with co-parenting her kids with Jason Sudeikis.
But, looking back, Olivia said one of the most jarring parts of that relationship was how much it bothered people! She confessed to host Alex Cooper:
“It really did upset people. It was crazy. I don’t know how much I understand it yet.”
She continued, thinking about how women are often scrutinized for their relationships with celebrities:
“I know that it has existed for a long time in our society, like, I understand it had very little to do with me. It is something that we have done to women for a long time. Why is it? I don’t know. People were f**king pissed.”

And though Olivia says she doesn’t really understand it, she said she believes it has to do with “parasocial relationships” fans form with their fav celebs, and particularly, Harry:
“[It] is a burden that is very weighty and not something I envy, and he carries it with grace. I think that is an enormous responsibility that all those stars have to carry, and it’s f**king impossible.”
In a rare moment of talking about the very private relationship they had, she gushed:
“I don’t know, it’s wild, because we had the loveliest relationship, like, so sweet and so beautiful and, like, really actually very domestic and kind and lovely. I think that we existed in this little bubble and the judgment never really got into that bubble, which was a miracle [and] a real testament to us making that happen. I think that people were mad. It’s almost like the happiness made them mad.”
Aww… It says so much that she still has such nice things to say about him!
The House actress also said she believes her motherhood had something to do with how fans perceived her, especially when she’d turn up at Harry’s concerts and had fun:
“In this country, motherhood means, ‘No more sexual being for you, young lady. That part of you is over now.’ There is this puritanical basis to that which is like, ‘You are no longer capable of desire, you don’t deserve it. You have served your purpose and now if I see you without your baby and you are enjoying yourself as an individual woman, I see that as a betrayal of this covenant.’”
All too real. Ugh! It sucks to hear she got treated like that.
