Love Island Star Paul Danan’s Cause Of Death Revealed

The cause of death for Paul Danan has finally been revealed.

As we previously reported, the Love Island Celebrity star died in January at just 46 years old. His management, Independent Creative PR, confirmed the sad news of his “untimely departure” but did not share any details about what happened. Now we know.

According to the BBC on Tuesday, an inquest opening at Avon Coroner’s Court in the UK revealed Paul died from a cocktail of A LOT of drugs. The provisional cause of death was a combined toxicity of heroin, methadone, codeine, pregabalin, cocaine, zopiclone, contributed to by benzodiazepine use. Awful.

Coroner’s officer Alexis Camp shared more details about his death at the hearing, saying that the Hollyoaks actor was pronounced dead at his home in Brislington, Bristol, at 5:20 p.m. on January 15. His partner, Melissa Crooks, then identified the body at the scene. Camp continued:

“The circumstances are that Mr Danan was found unresponsive at his home address. Emergency services attended and confirmed he had sadly died. A post-mortem has taken place and samples have been removed for further analysis. I understand there are no family concerns.”

The coroner’s officer added that “no note was left” by the reality star. His cause of death may not come as a shock to fans. Over the years, Paul has been open about his addiction to drugs, including cocaine and codeine. He said he would use them to “self-soothe” after losing acting roles in his 20s and spent over $1 million on rehab. Sadly, it looks like he couldn’t stay sober.

BBC reported Paul was supposed to appear for a plea hearing at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on January 16, the day after he died, because he had been charged with possession of cocaine and cannabis. He was further accused of driving under the influence of drugs in October last year. Last year, the television personality also shared that his vaping addiction had nearly killed him. He was sent to the hospital after he was unable to breathe and passed out one day.

Oof. Paul really struggled with one substance issue after another…

A full inquest hearing for Paul has been scheduled for May 28. Camp said statements would be taken from his GP, family, police, and the ambulance service, and inquiries are ongoing with Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust.
