Sandra Bullock Reveals Her Father And Dogs Died In 'Crappy Few Weeks'

Poor Sandra Bullock!

Sure, she’s a beloved movie star, one of America’s sweethearts — but gurl has got some seriously bad luck.

Most recently she went through a thoroughly depressing period which included the death of her father, John Bullock, in September.

And also her dogs, Poppy and Ruby, both passed away during the same couple weeks! We had no idea!

Sandy B revealed her misfortunes in a speech at Elle‘s Women in Hollywood event during which she was supposed to be extolling the virtues of her pal and Ocean’s 8 costar Sarah Paulson.

She told the crowd, per UsWeekly reporters:

“I was going to write a nice speech about all the things I like about Sarah Paulson. Sarah Catharine Paulson, she likes when you use her middle name, or Powell-son, as my 5-year-old calls her.

But it’s been a crappy few weeks. My dad died, both of my dogs died. You turn on the television or computer and it’s endless tragedies and it seems like more than ever now if you have a vagina, you have to be a fighter as well. So, I don’t feel nice. So, I decided tonight I’m going to talk about all the things I don’t like about Sarah.”

OK, obviously she was kidding — her faux roast was actually a full course of compliments as she facetiously explained:

“I don’t like the fact that she can wear things that look like a child threw a box of highlighters. Or that she dissembled her grandmother’s couch and reassembled it with safety pins. And still takes your breath away the minute she walks on the red carpet. I don’t like that bravery and I don’t like that it’s inspiring.I don’t like that she loves so deeply and so openly. And I don’t like that she is loved so deeply and so openly by extraordinary people because it only shines the light on how I just need to be better. I don’t like her work ethic. It reminds me that I need to work harder.”

She also referred to Sarah’s relationship with actress Holland Taylor as she continued:

“I don’t like that her and Holland’s joy for life and each other reminds me that I need to be a better girlfriend. I don’t like that she’s the kind of person that after a long day of flying and fittings will sit in your hotel room after you believe she has nowhere else to go when in fact she is fully aware that you’ve been stood up and she doesn’t want you to be alone. Just like I didn’t like the dozens upon dozens upon roses with little white poppies intermingled in them mere hours after I put my dog to sleep, whose name happens to be Poppy. So if that is the type of person you want for your icon, then I think you have chosen well.”

So cute!

Good thing Sandra has been lucky with her friends!

Lena Dunham Says Goodbye To Her Beloved Yorkie Bowie In Heartfelt Instagram Post

Our hearts go out to Lena Dunham today.

The Girls creator shared the sad news with fans that her Yorkshire Terrier Bowie passed away.

In her Instagram post, she said the passing was “peaceful and patient and loving.”

She remembered her beloved Yorkie fondly, writing:

Bowie left everyone who saw her, in the street or the airport or the Rite Aid, with a crazy smile. She kept me safe at night, even if it was just from the indistinct shadow of a tank top strewn over a lamp.”

So sorry for your loss!

Read the whole post and see more pics of the sweet Bowie (below):

As many of you know, in the last 3 months my heart was stolen by an irascible 13 year old Yorkie named Bowie. After spending a lifetime with my sister @scotlan, her home now contained a baby and another on the way and Bowie’s crotchety old self wouldn’t condone it so she came to live with me, and what started as a tentative guardianship became a full scale obsession. We went to brunch and therapy and the set of a TV show and took at least 5 flights across the US. We laid our heads in a few very chic hotel rooms and walked up and down the river a million miles. She made me feel safe and strong in a sea of change and reminded me that joy needn’t be diminished by a bunch o’ imperfect body parts (she wielded her 3 teeth/3 working legs in style.) My head knew she was 91 in dog years, but my heart felt she was just a sweet baby. On August 13th this sweet baby old mama went to her final home. After a weekend of rapid decline, I knew it was time to let her go so Scotty and I (along with her super model baby Clementine and her wise, cozy husband @mf.goodtimes) came together to bid her farewell. It was peaceful and patient and loving. We laughed and cried like the family that Bowie has made us. Bowie left everyone who saw her, in the street or the airport or the Rite Aid, with a crazy smile. She kept me safe at night, even if it was just from the indistinct shadow of a tank top strewn over a lamp. She made Scotty and my friendship something eternal and deep and boundless. I am so lucky to have been her second mom. I love you Scotty, Clem, JJ and my darling @iolovesyou for capturing it all. Please eat a grilled chicken breast in honor of your second favorite glam rocker today. Meanwhile, I’ll be donating to @seespotrescued in her name, for dogs who don’t have homes and dogs who need new ones.
