Say what you will about Madonna. This lady is always up for a good cause.
The music legend took to the Twickenham Stadium stage in London on Saturday for the Chime for Change: the Sound of Change live concert. The fundraiser, thrown by the Chime for Change organization, is dedicated to the promotion of education and awareness of injustices towards girls.
Madge gave a moving ten minute speech in which she announced the added efforts of her Ray of Light Foundation in support of girls’ education in Pakistan and Afghanistan. She also said:
“In many places, women of all ages are risking their lives to make sure ├óΓé¼╦£other├óΓé¼Γäó girls are given a chance to read and write. They get shot for writing blogs. They have acid thrown in their faces for wanting to go to school. They are assassinated for being school teachers. I do not accept this, and neither should you!├óΓé¼┬¥
Ch-ch-check out the empowering speech (above)!!
Madonna was also joined onstage by Humaira Bachal, a Pakistani woman working to better girls’ education, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, an Oscar-winning Pakistani documentary filmmaker.
We can only hope that more people take part in improving the situation for these girls.
