It looks like Mae Whitman’s baby daddy wasn’t keeping it a total secret that he is a dad! We just had no idea he had fathered a child with her until now!
In August, the 36-year-old actress revealed she gave birth to a son named Miles on Instagram. Who is the dad? No one had any idea at the time! Mae didn’t say anything — not even when she announced her pregnancy back in May! But her Parenthood co-star Lauren Graham accidentally let the baby daddy out of the bag during Dax Shepard’s podcast on Monday!
The father is Mae’s former co-star, Carlos Valdes! You know, Cisco from The Flash? Or the current Orpheus in Hadestown on Broadway? Carlos and Mae even starred together in the rom-com show Up Here. We guess they became lovers IRL! The Gilmore Girls alum said:
“They’re in New York now. Carlos, her baby daddy, is on Broadway in ‘Hadestown,’ which I feel happy to plug because he’s fantastic in it. Carlos Valdes. So they’re in New York for the next while, and then she got this job in Ireland. So she’s in Ireland with the baby. It’s a lot.”
Way to add to her plate by sharing this secret, Lauren! LOLz!

But it turns out Carlos actually revealed he was a father days ago! He just didn’t give away many details at the time — like who the mom was! The 35-year-old actor told People on March 3 that he not only has a new role on Broadway but a “relatively new” one as a dad. He said:
“Not a lot of people know this, but I’m a dad, a relatively new dad. It’s my personal preference that I don’t share more beyond that, but being a Broadway dad… let me tell you, it’s not for the faint of heart! This life is pretty unforgiving when it comes to balancing it with parenting.”
Whelp, he can thank Lauren for sharing more details than he probably wanted! We wonder how that phone conversation between Carlos, Mae, and her will go down! Anyway…
It’s definitely a lot of work to star on Broadway for several days a week and juggle being a father. Fortunately, he has a great support system in the community — including the dad of two Darren Criss who is currently starring in Maybe Happy Ending. Carlos expressed:
“I haven’t been able to see Darren in Maybe Happy Ending yet, which is such a crime, but I’ve been able to talk with him a lot. It’s been really helpful to lean on each other, share tips and have him as a support system and sounding board for all of my parenting woes. It’s allowed us to bond in a new way. It’s also a tremendously joyous thing to be able to have a child and have that inform our respective stories.”
He’s also turned to former Orpheus and fellow Broadway dad Jordan Fisher. According to Carlos, the Work It star has shared some “invaluable” advice with him during this time such as using his experience as a father in the character of Orpheus:
“We had our little sentimental ‘passing of the torch’ conversation and one of the many things he imparted to me in that conversation was that as dads, we have a superpower in playing Orpheus because we can allow the fruits of that experience color our approach to this very childlike character in a very natural and informed way. And since I started in the show on Jan. 14, he could not be more correct. I’ve really put a lot of my own personal experience as a dad, and as a fan of my child, into Orpheus’ own naiveté of looking at the world.”
All along he had been talking about being a parent of a child with Mae, and everyone had no idea! Absolutely wild! Reactions, Perezcious readers? Are you still shocked at the identity of Mae’s baby daddy? Let us know in the comments!
