We guess blood is thicker than… super glue??
A Reddit story has sparked a really sticky debate online as it chronicles a major family rift over a “prank” gone wrong. It started when the OP’s brother-in-law ignored the Jackass warning of not trying this at home — and poured super glue on him! The poster wrote:
“I recently took my brother-in-law to small claims court over a prank he pulled on me, and now my wife and her family are furious. I need to know if I’m in the wrong here.”
Uh oh… He explained:
“A few months ago, we were at a family BBQ. I had a few too many beers and fell asleep in a hammock with my shirt off. My BIL, who was completely sober, thought it would be hilarious to fill my belly button with super glue. At some point, I must have touched it, because when I woke up, I had glue partially dried in my belly button and on my finger.”
This would be funny… if it weren’t SUPER GLUE! This stuff is no joke, as he recalled:
“We tried to remove it, but it was stuck. The glue had adhered to my skin, and when we attempted to peel it off, it caused some tearing around the edges.”
Yikes! Not tearing!

The poor guy had to go to the hospital for treatment — and that ain’t cheap!
“Unfortunately, my job’s insurance has a $1,000 ER copay, but I had no choice — I had to go to the ER. They used a solvent and an ointment to remove the glue, and after everything, I was left with a medical bill of $2,253.”
Whoa, that’s a LOT of money over a $5 tube of super glue and some poor decision-making… And if you thought a guy who would pull a super glue prank on someone’s skin would also be the type to take responsibility for it? Nope. The Redditor wrote:
“After trying to resolve it privately, I took him to small claims court — and I won. However, he still hasn’t paid. This has caused a major rift in my family. My wife is upset, and her family thinks I overreacted.”
Sorry, the wife is on her brother’s side? Really??
In an update, the original poster shared more details of why his wife’s family got so mad at him:
“The reason my wife was upset is because her brother was going thru a divorce and ‘between’ jobs. Everyone knew he did it, he even admitted it. He blames his ADHD. I don’t want to garnish his pay.”
He also responded to critics asking why he felt it was completely necessary to go to the ER instead of ripping off the glue himself:
“The reason I didn’t try more to clean the glue off of me was because I have scars in my navel from gall bladder surgery about three years ago.”
Yeesh… He continued:
“My mother in law has offered to pay the bill but she is on a fixed income and I would feel like an ass for taking her money. Of course, I’m the villain and only my sister in law is on speaking terms with me. My wife is only barely in my side. It was her that took me to the ER. Not thinking it would cost that much. I figure blood is thicker than water.”
That’s pretty wild… In the replies, commenters were mostly on his side, more than his wife, that’s for sure! They wrote things like:
“I can’t believe your wife isn’t with you on this. Pranks shouldn’t involve the ER.”
“go back and ask the courts to put a lien to force him to pay it. That or they can garnish his wages.”
“Uhh…. that’s not a prank, that’s assault.”
“Pranks that cause medical bills aren’t funny.”
“drizzling sunscreen in the shape of a d**k is a prank. super gluing your belly button is assault.”
“They’re lucky you didn’t call the police to report it as an assault. Could have also taken him to criminal court.”
