“Conservatives think of California as a huge liberal playground. Well, back in 2008 it felt like a war zone for LGBT Americans. Along with the high of Barack Obama being elected president came the huge low of Proposition 8 passing. Our own neighbors voted to amend the state constitution to define marriage as only between a man and a woman. Well, the queer community fought. And we fought. And eventually we opened hearts and minds and created the change of federal recognition for same sex marriage. This video is from a march we organized just after the crushing defeat in November. One of many that I went to. Watching this brings back so many powerful memories and serves as both a great reminder of how far we’ve come and how much work we still have to do for true equality for ALL!”
