Mariah Carey is making music on her own terms.
Thus, the iconic diva doesn’t “give a damn” about the Grammys‘ Recording Academy. Oh snap!

For a candid interview with V Magazine, Miz Carey shared her thoughts about the venerated award show — and, boy, is the tea hot!! Mimi dished:
“In the music business, if you care about the Grammys and submitting your stuff before a certain time frame, you want a single out in the summer. And then you want to have a record [out] before the Grammys [consideration] deadline, which has changed. Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.”
You tell ’em, queen! The We Belong Together artist went on to further shade the Grammys as she called her five past wins “cute.”
She continued:
“I mean, I have five Grammys. That’s cute. There’s people that have been doing this half the time that have twice as many. I won two Grammys the first year I started, but after that, [the Grammys] are like, ├óΓé¼╦£We don’t go with the people that are selling a lot of records and are popular; we’re gonna go the opposite way.'”
We’re not certain that’s a completely accurate breakdown of the Recording Academy’s voting history, but we’re sure Mariah’s felt ignored by her peers at certain points. On the times where she was snubbed, Carey noted:
“So, I got screwed out of certain years. I wasn’t bitter about it. I was just like, okay, well, I guess I’m not standing here barefoot onstage singing and trying to go a certain way. I’m just me.”
Fair enough. Although the New York native concedes that the music industry is a business, she says she’s just focusing on making art. The chart topper concluded:
“I consider myself more of a musician first than a business person, I don’t necessarily think of things that way; it’s music first.”
Well, this explains why Mariah has had a lasting career!! Keep doing what you do, bb!
