5 Killed In 39th Mass Shooting Of 2019

Aurora Shooting National Emergency

Five people so far have been confirmed dead and six police officers injured after a mass shooting at a manufacturing company in Aurora, Illinois Friday afternoon.
The suspect was employed at the plant, according to Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman.

The shooting began just before 1:30 p.m. local time at an industrial complex in the Illinois city, which is about 50 miles outside Chicago.
Police descended just minutes later, quickly locating and eventually exchanging gunfire and killing the suspect.
Chief Ziman revealed more during a press conference on Friday night (below):

“The other officers on the scene located gunshot victims inside the building. At this time, we have confirmed that five victims are deceased.”

Ugh…

Victims have yet to be publicly identified.

And, as we mentioned, six officers were injured, including five by gunshot — though all are currently in stable condition and expected to survive.

We should clarify this is not the same Aurora where there was a mass shooting in 2012. That was Aurora, Colorado. Yes, there have been enough mass shootings in this country that we have to be more specific.
In fact, according to the GunViolenceArchive, this is the 39th mass shooting of the year in the United States, and it’s only mid-February. In 2018 there were 340.
Donald Trump decided to tweet about the shooting earlier today (below):

That tweet is of course, all we are likely to get from the POTUS on this.
Trump is willing to shut down the government and overturn the constitution for his fake national emergency — building a nonsensical border wall — but will continue to do NOTHING about the epidemic of gun violence.
We are not being glib here.
It is a serious matter, and it’s well past time we talked about a serious solution.
For now, our hearts go out to the victims and their families.
