Meghan Markle reportedly freaked Prince William out — because she hugged too much!!!
In an excerpt from Tom Quinn‘s new book, Yes Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, published by the London Times on Thursday, one reason Prince Harry‘s feud with his older brother got so bad is because of Meghan’s overly affectionate personality! Really!
A junior staffer told the author that the “Fab Four” — including Princess Catherine — used to get along really well in the “early days” after the Suits alum married the Duke of Sussex in 2018. She even had a good vibe with the Prince of Wales, and the employee recalled they once playfully danced the jive together. Unfortunately, the mother of two apparently couldn’t read the room very well because her “warm, friendly, hug-everyone approach” quickly got on William’s nerves! He hated it!

Apparently, William and King Charles III were so “uncomfortable” by the hugging that they would sometimes “flinch” when Meg went in for an embrace. Oof! The excerpt detailed:
“This tactile manner made William uncomfortable because Meghan hugged him virtually every time they bumped into each other.”
But it wasn’t just that the physical touch may not have been standard for the royals — it was actually generating some unwanted rumors in the palace, according to insiders, Quinn noted:
“The hugging and cheek-kissing fueled gossip among the staff that Meghan was flirting with William.”
Oooooh!
That said, the author insisted the Duchess was “obviously not” flirting with Willy. Still, those kinds of rumors are not good!
As you can imagine, the actress did not take kindly to the fact her relatives were so dismissive about her PDA. Tom said she was “understandably hurt, as everyone apparently hugs everyone in California.” The shade!
But, also, Meghan should’ve realized her new family might not have been accustomed to all the touching. The royal family lives by some strict rules, after all — and hugging clearly wasn’t their thing. She should’ve course-corrected instead of leaning into it! Then again, she’s been blasted for mocking royal protocol in the past, so we’re not entirely shocked…
The different personalities was something that drove a big wedge between the Sussexes and the rest of the family, though. The Archetypes podcast host also began questioning her in-laws’ personalities, as she once asked a staffer:
“Why do William and Charles sound so serious all the time?”
She thought the difference was so stark between Harry and Will that she once supposedly joked that the brothers couldn’t have the same parents because her husband “isn’t pompous at all” and is “chill.” Well, maybe that’s in part because he got to be the wild party boy while William was always groomed to be king??
Because of the hugging and tension it caused, this “deepened the rift” that already existed between the siblings. Oof. And to think, if Meghan wasn’t so touchy-feely, maybe Harry would still be close to his family?!? It’s wild how something seemingly so small can help create such a mess — her hugging must have been so annoying. LOLz!
