Meet Archewell!
We finally have a name for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s new project, and it’s no surprise their muse was baby Archie Harrison!

The pair told The Telegraph on Monday they intend to “do something of meaning, to do something that matters” with their latest organization. And it seems like they’ll be doing just that in the form of volunteer services, a wide-ranging website, “education and training materials” via films, a podcast, books, and more, per a trademark application filed on March 3 in Beverly Hills.
In addition, they could be launching their own awards of sort for “entities and individuals who have made significant charitable contributions.” In the application, it lists promoting awareness for a variety of causes and developing volunteer and community service programs. In addition, their website will feature philanthropy related content, special event information, and scholarships for grants.
Their son’s moniker clearly played a large role in the brand’s name, which was a surprise when it was announced last May! There is also another meaning, though, as the twosome told the outlet:
“Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of ‘Arche’—the Greek word meaning ‘source of action’. We connected to this concept for the charitable organisation we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name. Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon.”
But don’t expect any update just yet! They are postponing the official launch date until the coronavirus pandemic is over and they can fully dedicate their attention to this new undertaking:
“Like you, our focus is on supporting efforts to tackle the global COVID-19 pandemic but faced with this information coming to light, we felt compelled to share the story of how this came to be.”
The duo added:
“We look forward to launching Archewell when the time is right.”
We can’t wait for more details!!
As you’re aware, this announcement comes after a back-and-forth with the royal family over the use of the “Sussex Royal” branding, which the Duke and Duchess had hoped to keep moving into their new phase, but that idea was ultimately shut down by the crown.
