Meghan Trainor Reacts To Surrogacy Backlash, Reveals She 'Was A Cloud Of Tears Every Night'

Meghan Trainor Reacts to Backlash Surrounding the Birth of Her Baby Girl via Surrogate

Meghan Trainor is opening up about how difficult it was to deal with the backlash of her surrogacy news.

During Thursday’s episode of Kylie Kelce‘s Not Gonna Lie podcast, the singer got candid about her emotional and complex decisions to chose surrogacy for her third child, a daughter named Mikey Moon, whose birth she announced in January. Referencing her husband Daryl Sabara, she reflected:

“[We had] heartbreaking, big decision-making to do. And I was struggling with my health and almost towards an autoimmune disease. So there’s so many conversations back and forth. Then we were like, the safest way is to do it through a surrogate.”

But it wasn’t easy:

“Every day when we knew she was like alive in someone else, we were like, ‘Is she okay?’ You know, like you go cuckoo, you go crazy. There’s so much that goes into it, but we had an amazing surrogate who was so good to us and texts us everything and we got to talk all the time.”

So glad they had a good relationship with their surrogate! But we can understand why that was a massive change, especially since she did carry her first two kids.

Unfortunately, Meghan also knew that she was going to be met with a wave of backlash when she did announce the surrogacy — which sadly happened.

“I didn’t look [at the comments]. I knew fully — because it was after all the hate I was already getting for changing, just for looking different because I took care of myself — so I was like, ‘Oh, they hate me now. They ain’t going like this.’ And it was a cloud of tears every night of just worry.”

Oh, gosh. That’s heartbreaking. And it also made her so worried for what her daughter would eventually see:

“I want my daughter to come to this world and not everyone attack her for the way she got here. All of that went through my head. But my team was with me, my therapist was with me, everyone was so supportive. My husband was like, Everyone can suck our ass. And like, this was the healthiest way.”

Ugh, so hard. But ultimately, it was the right decision for this family:

“We cried a lot, but it was the best thing for our family.”

After having two C-sections in previous pregnancies, not having to physically recover from her daughter’s birth allowed her to be a better parent for all her kids:

“I’ll tell you what’s different is not healing from a C-section with a newborn. That was different. I could be so present with her and with my other kids, they’re not like, don’t I have to be worried that they’re jumping on me or I can pick them up and be fully present. So that was the good parts, but there’s a lot of scary parts.”

As for why they chose to share the news on Instagram, the pop star said she was “warned” the pregnancy could “leak” and she wanted to get ahead of it:

“Because they warned me it could leak through the hospital. So we were like, We’re gonna post and just announce her like we did my other kids.”

Such a frustrating thing to have to worry about, but we’re glad she got to share the happy news on her own terms. We wish she never had to deal with all this backlash! The birth of her daughter should be just a joy!
