What in the heck is going on?? Is this finally Melania Trump drawing a line in the sand? And proving on this topic she really does care, do u?
The former First Lady’s memoir is coming out next week, and we’ve been wondering if it would have any dirt on her marriage to Donald Trump. The surprise we’re actually getting is this: Melania does NOT agree with Trump and running mate JD Vance‘s radical anti-abortion stance!
Melania Is Pro-Choice!
Writing far more eruditely than we’ve ever heard from her, she explained in an excerpt shared by The Guardian:
“It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government.”
Uh huh… Waiting for the other designer shoe to drop… Go on…
“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes.”
Sorry… She said what??
We… 100% agree, obviously, we’re just floored! She continued:
“Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life.”
OK, sorry, but WHUT.
Why Now???
She’s telling us she firmly held this belief even as her husband, the president, was pushing through Heritage Foundation-approved justices onto the Supreme Court in order to overturn Roe v Wade? Even as Donald did his victory lap, claiming credit for getting abortion banned again in states across America??
One big obvious question is, why hasn’t she ever said so before? Why the hell did she let him do all that then?

Well… It seems pretty clear Donald Trump doesn’t give any weight to what any woman thinks… and historically hasn’t shown his wives much respect at all. We mean, hell, he cheated on all of them, including Melania. The only woman whose opinion he ever seemed to give any weight to was his daughter Ivanka Trump. But we doubt he’d give up any money or power for her either, honestly.
So yeah, it’s not a huge surprise Melania’s views on women’s health and reproductive rights aren’t moving Donnie’s needle.
A Wild Theory
Tin foil hat time though? There is the possibility this is a strategic move to make Donald Trump look softer on the anti-abortion stuff. If you’ve followed this election, you may have noticed 45 is trying really hard not to be pinned down to, well, his own position on abortion.
It’s become clear from polling that the country by and large disagrees with the ban on abortion, and especially with the draconian Project 2025 version Trump and Vance represent. The plan is to ban abortion nationally, criminalizing many healthcare decisions doctors would make — even to save the life of the mother. Even in cases of incest and rape. Not only that, it would create an Orwellian database of miscarriages, stillbirths, and other pregnancy losses. Just to be sure of what you’re doing with your body. Oh, and they also would ban IVF, which they apparently see as blasphemous or something. It sounds crazy, but there’s a reason every single Republican voted against a bill to protect IVF just two weeks ago.
The thing is, they realize how unpopular this stance is. Hence not being willing to own it when asked outright in interviews and debates. They weren’t scared before a few months ago, so you can still find stuff Trump and Vance said in the past about it. But at some point this year they saw polling data and decided they needed to equivocate, evade, and straight up lie about their positions. Like how Trump knows everything about everything… until you ask him about Project 2025. Then he’s not familiar with it. The list of policies authored by many of his own staff — at least 140 people who worked for Trump are involved with it, by last count. (See HERE.) But he’s never heard of it and can’t possibly comment. And he can’t say for sure what his abortion position is…
A cynical person might wonder if the intention of Melania’s statement was to further muddy the waters, to trick undecided voters into thinking maybe he won’t sign a national abortion ban. After all, his own wife is against it, right?
Again, that’s really cynical. But also… This is Trump we’re talking about.
Frankly if that is the 4-D chess plan, we kind of doubt it’ll work. It’s become all too clear over the past few years that Melania is NOT a big enough part of Donald’s life to make a difference to his policies.
Or How About This…
The other option, of course, is Melania is enough of her own person now that she doesn’t care if she hurts her husband’s political future. Because frankly if this was a normal political landscape, a woman coming out with a strong stance AGAINST her husband’s views would be a pretty huge blow.
Think about it, this is a pretty good signifier that even a woman who was willing to go to bat for Trump amid the Access Hollywood tape, his awful Charlottesville comments, January 6… Even a woman like that is going to draw the line at laws involving men telling women what they can and can’t do with their bodies. That they can’t choose NOT to have their rapist father’s child. That they can’t choose to use scientific advancements to help their chances when they DO want to have children. That they can’t find doctors to save their lives in an emergency situation.
Even a woman who has been in Trump’s corner all this time can’t allow him to take her freedom like that. Because if this is legit, that’s kind of what Melania is declaring here, right?
