Men In Black III Breaks Memorial Day Opening Weekend Record For IMAX

MIB 3 breaks imax record
Men In Black III won’t be the massive hit of the summer, but for a sequel that came out a decade after the last installment, it’s doing pretty well.
The movie dethroned The Avengers over Memorial Day weekend and collected a modest $55 million domestically. Not exactly a record breaker … UNLESS you look at the IMAX ticket sales!
Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, and Josh Brolin were able to collect $12.7 million at the global IMAX box office last weekend and secured a new Memorial Day opening weekend record in the screening format.
However, men in suits fighting aliens are no match for men in tights doing the same. The Avengers was able to secure the highest grossing opening weekend in IMAX history when the Marvel juggernaut hit theaters in the beginning of May.
Producers of MIBIII should just be happy they broke at least one record, which was previously held by Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Congrats!
