Shawn Ashmore has nothing but love for his “incredible” ex-girlfriend Michelle Trachtenberg.
The X2: X-Men United star took to Instagram on Wednesday after news broke that the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum passed away… And his words will leave you needing a box of tissues.

For those who don’t know, the stars dated from around May 2004 to August 2006. It may not have lasted, but it was an important early romance for both. The Iceman and the Ice Princess. Wow. And clearly they had a good relationship after. Shawn, now 45, shared a throwback photo of the pair posing together in the mid-2000s and wrote the following message:
“Incredibly sad to hear about Michelle’s passing. She was an incredible person and I will always remember the years we spent together fondly.”
So, so sad. But his words are so kind.
Reflecting on how they used to spend all those sweet hours together, the Frozen star added:
“She was loving, quirky and would never pass up a law and order SVU marathon:) My condolences to her mother Lana and sister Irene! This is an incredible loss!”

It’s actually so funny he looks back on the times just hanging out at home, not the movie premieres and red carpets. Michelle actually said he wasn’t in that stuff when she first revealed they were dating! Speaking to Blackfilm while promoting 2005’s Ice Princess, she spilled how they met and everything:
“No, we just met, which is funny, knowing Shawn, he hates anything publicity. He’s so not into that world. We met at an Oscar party and he was just like Mr. Grumpy unhappy to be out in public and I totally approached him. I was the forward one, I take full credit and actually, we’ve been together a year.”
Aww. Young love. We can’t believe that was over 20 years ago now!
Our thoughts are with all of Michelle’s loved ones. It sounds like everyone only has the most glowing memories of her, from fans to friends to exes. She really was something special.
