News broke Wednesday the Gossip Girl star passed away unexpectedly. The NYPD released a statement confirmed a woman — later confirmed to be Michelle — was found “unconscious and unresponsive” at a residence at 1 Columbus Place in New York City early Wednesday morning. Officers and EMS personnel responded to a 911 call about a possible cardiac arrest placed at about 8:00 a.m. ET — but it was already too late. They pronounced her dead on the scene.

What we’ve now learned is the person who found her was her own mother Lana. According to TMZ‘s sources, she went to her daughter’s apartment and finally found her in bed, lying on her back. It was Lana who called 911.
Early reports suggest Michelle died of natural causes, possibly after complications from a liver transplant. We’ve since heard she may have been suffering through illness for months. But that doesn’t make the end any less sudden.
According to the outlet’s sources, the Buffy alum was still active, even going out with friends last Thursday night. And her mom had seen her alive Tuesday night at 10 p.m. This must have been the worst shock for poor Lana. She has not spoken out yet, but the Trachtenberg family’s reps released a statement:
“It is with great sadness to confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away. The family requests privacy for their loss.”
We just cannot even imagine finding our child like that. We don’t want to. Our hearts break for Lana. We’re just so, so sorry.
