Miley Cyrus Called Out For 'Direct Theft' Over Abortion Cake Post!

Miley Cyrus Abortion Cake Artist Feud

Miley Cyrus tried to make a feminist statement on Instagram Tuesday, and her biggest opposition is… another feminist.
In case you missed it, the She Is Coming singer announced a collab with Marc Jacobs and Planned Parenthood — a fashionable hoodie to raise money for the women’s health organization.

She made the announcement — in typical Miley fashion — with her tongue.
Um, we guess most people use their tongues to make announcements… You know what we mean! She Miley’ed it!

Here’s the post she put on her IG Tuesday morning:

Just an hour later the cake pic was panned not by right wing pro-lifers or delusional men’s rights activists, but by a feminist baker named Becca Rea-Holloway.
Becca posts on IG under the name TheSweetFeminist — using Mary Poppins’ spoonful of sugar method to deliver statements about women’s healthcare and other struggles.
Here’s a delicious sampling of her work:

Oh, and this one…

Last night, HB314 passed Alabama’s Senate. It is now the most restrictive anti-abortion law in the country – it makes abortion a felony at conception, punishable by up to 99 years imprisonment (note: the governor has not signed this law yet. *Abortion is still legal in Alabama*, and this law will be challenged). One thing that’s been bothering me a lot lately (other than the systematic degradation of our collective right to bodily autonomy) is the willingness of some to write off the states where these laws are passing. If you’re writing off these states as “backwards”, or calling for a general boycott (which organizers on the ground are saying is not a good idea) you are also saying that you are willing to abandon the residents of those states who do and will need access to abortion. Abandoning Alabama, or Georgia, or Ohio will not save you. It just feeds into the false narrative that abortion access is only for some. Abortion access should not depend on geography. If you buy into the idea that Alabama and other states like it are “backwards”, you erase all the factors that shape lawmaking there (like: disenfranchisement and voter suppression, racism), as well as the people who are on the ground working towards reproductive justice. If we are willing to abandon the residents of Alabama, or Georgia, or Ohio, we are complicit. It’s not enough for abortion to still be accessible for some. It must be safe, legal, and accessible for everyone. Today is a good day to donate to @yellowfund, @sistersong_woc @ppse_advocates #thesweetfeminist #sweetfeminism

Yep, that one right there is the issue.
Becca reposted Miley’s photo, comparing the cake Miley is tasting to her own work — accusing Miley in no uncertain terms of “direct theft”:

“@mileycyrus just announced a collaboration with @marcjacobs @plannedparenthood @happyhippiefdn using this image. It is a direct theft of my own original art work from May 2018, with no credit. It’s literally my exact handwriting, message, and concept. Swipe for comparison! Cake art is for everyone, but this is inexcusable.”

It’s definitely the same concept, though not so sure about that handwriting part.
Miley and her team responded to the baker immediately, saying it was an honest mistake and making it clear they were NOT putting the cake on the hoodie they were selling, just making an image for the ‘gram. So, you know, not directly making money off of Becca’s work.

They wrote:

“Hi, we saw the image online and didn’t realize it was yours. We will absolutely tag you for your work.
This image is not on the Marc Jacobs x Planned Parenthood hoodie we made to raise money and awareness for Planned Parenthood which I know is also close to your heart. It is just on the post and not on the merchandise but we will absolutely tag you and give you the credit for your art. If you could please correct your post, as we’re going to make sure you have all the credit you deserve… thanks for sharing your art and inspiring us. ?”

Was it really that hard to track back?
We mean, the image did go viral, especially among incensed pro-life groups for whom frosting is also apparently sacrosanct.

Just take our word for it; we don’t recommend googling “abortion cake”.

So it’s possible Miley and her team saw the picture and couldn’t find the originator… but it makes ya wonder how hard they tried, right?
What they did do was tag @TheSweetFeminist in the photo. So all good, right?
No. Not all good.
Becca shot back:

“Hi there, I appreciate your quick response and I’m thrilled that Miley is working with Planned Parenthood to support their incredible work.
While I acknowledge your tag (although it should also be in the caption itself), it doesn’t change the fact that my work was used without compensation and without my consent and it is not sufficient.
My original image was shared widely, but it certainly would not have been difficult for someone on your team to trace it back to the source (this is clear from the number of people who immediately recognized it as my work). This was not an oversight, it was blatantly and willfully neglectful and deceitful.
I would have been more than happy to work with you on a collaboration for this project, but instead my work was just copied without compensation. Someone got paid to make, style, and photograph this cake, and it wasn’t me.
It’s also totally unacceptable that you deleted my comment on the post.”

But that was just the preheating. She continued:

“This has also opened me up to incredible vitriol from your followers – I have gotten hundreds of threatening, horrible comments and messages in the past couple of hours for simply pointing out that my work had been stolen. I hope you understand that this sort of mistake has serious, tangible consequences for artists like myself.
Honestly I find it laughable that you think you’re in a position to ask me to edit the language on a post on my own feed advocating for myself in a way that has no incorrect information.”

Yeah, this feud doesn’t show any signs of cooling off any time soon.
We want to know what YOU think, Perezcious readers??
