Disney doesn’t want to get rid of their cash cow, Miley Cyrus, anytime soon. So the star-makers have acquired the rights to the bestselling Aprilynne Pike novel Wings as a vehicle for Nick Jonas’ ex-girlfriend.
Well, it might be a “bestseller”, but we’ve never heard of it. Have U?
The flick will be produced by Temple Hill, and get this, it will be executive produced by momma Tish Cyrus! What, was Billy Ray too busy working on his hair?
Apparently Temple Hill wants to get into the whole Twilight/Harry Potter niche with this supernatural story.
Smiley will play 15-year-old Laurel, who grows up thinking she’s an average girl but finds out she’s really a fairy once she starts growing some wings.
According to the book’s site, “When Laurel is thrust into the midst of a centuries-old battle between faeries and trolls, she’s torn between a human and a faerie love. In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.”
And considering that the novel, which was published in May, is just the first of a four-book planned series, we smell a sequel coming.
That is, if the movie doesn’t bomb first.
