Well said, Mindy!
Mindy Kaling recently came under a little bit of fire for making statements in Flare Magazine that sitcoms aren’t the right place to tackle abortion as a hot-button issue.
Well, many sitcom fans responded to the Mindy Project star and creator by citing other classic comedies that were able to blend the medium with the oft-debated topic.
Mindy then went on to Huff Post Live to clear the air about what she meant when she misspoke about her OB-GYN workplace comedy addressing abortion, saying:
“When I made the comment, I think that I misspoke. I said that I thought it would demean the issue of abortion to talk about it on sitcom. What I should’ve said was my sitcom.
Many incredible shows have dealt with in it in a way that I really admire.”
The 35-year-old went on to reference Roseanne as a show that handled the storyline well, and added that just because she doesn’t see an abortion plot in any upcoming episodes, that doesn’t mean it will never be discussed.
Really good points all around, Mindy!
