While everyone was shocked to hear Mindy McCready had committed suicide, it is less shocking when you realize she had attempted suicide four times before.
The country singer had a dark past that involved one attempt at cutting her wrists and a number of overdoses, including one that occurred while she was pregnant with her oldest son.
Her first overdose was in 2005 and involved pills and alcohol that she took during an abusive relationship with Billy McKnight.
Mikael Wood, a Los Angeles Times music writer, revealed details about the attempt:
“She was found unconscious in a hotel lobby in Florida. She had been hospitalized for drugs and alcohol, an apparent suicide attempt.”
The second attempted overdose was the one that occurred while she was pregnant later in 2005. She had reconciled with Billy and overdosed on antidepressants this time.
Mindy attempted suicide a third time in 2008 when she was hospitalized with wounds to her wrists. Paramedics had been called to her house after she was found with the injuries.
And her fourth suicide attempt was another overdose that officials could not determine if it was accidental or not.
Unfortunately, Mindy passed away this weekend as she committed suicide with a gunshot to her head.
