It seems like Nancy Guthrie didn’t go without a fight.
It’s the mystery that keeps on giving. For months now, the world has watched with bated breath as investigators scramble to locate and figure out what happened to Savannah Guthrie‘s mother in the early morning hours of February 1. The 84-year-old just vanished into the Arizona night, never to be seen or heard from again. It’s hard to imagine how that’s even possible in this day and age, and yet here we are.

With very little information to go on, retired FBI profiler Jim Clemente believes he knows what may have gone down in Tucson that night — all thanks to blood spatter evidence discovered outside Nancy’s front door. Speaking to NewsNation‘s Brian Entin on Wednesday, Jim said:
“This tells me a number of things, and it’s very specific. One is that … at this point, Nancy’s face was very close to the ground, within a foot of the ground. This could be she was either on her knees, hunched over, or actually lying on the ground.”
Jim pointed out that the blood droplets appeared to be a mix between low-velocity and medium-velocity, explaining:
“Medium velocity (blood spatter) can be created when somebody actually aspirates blood and then coughs it up. You can see three circular blood spots, but they are hollow. You see mainly the rings. This definitely came from her (Guthrie). She coughed it out. It kind of went out in different directions.”
Because of this, he thinks she was likely “hunched over,” possibly on her knees. After coughing, more blood may have dripped out afterward, causing the large blood droplets. That means she was alive when she left! It may also indicate she could’ve been fighting back against the intruder somehow. Whoa.
Would someone actually attack an elderly woman, though? When questioned, Jim replied:
“Here it appears that the goal had to do with getting Nancy out of her home in the middle of the night. I do believe his motivation was strong enough that he carried this out even despite the fact that at some point she did not actually cooperate.”
Jeez. It’s so awful to think about what she went through.
As for his explanation for why the blood “disappears” off the front path, the expert said:
“Where that blood pattern disappears, I believe she was likely picked up and carried the rest of the way, perhaps with her face up so that there was no more blood deposited on that walkway.”
He’s not the first expert to think that…
The former agent went on to share his theory that there was just ONE kidnapper involved. He detailed:
“If there were two people, you would think one of them would have control of her, complete control of her inside the house and brought her outside and would not have lost that control. But here, she’s clearly on the ground coughing this blood up.”
Hmm. He furthered:
“There’s no evidence to me that there are more than one offender here. If there was three different shoe print patterns in the blood stains … that would tell me something. I don’t see it. I’m not aware of that evidence.”
Well, that says a lot. So far, we only have video evidence of one masked man tampering with her surveillance camera outside her home. Still, many have speculated there could be more people involved, especially to get her out of the home. But it sounds like maybe not!

So how in the world has ONE person not been identified?! Jim suspected the person has been busy “talking to people about it to try to find out more information, or been setting up an alibi with other people,” such as planting a story “that he was somewhere else and could not have been involved.”
Just because investigators have been stumped so far, the expert doesn’t believe this will be a cold case forever:
“I firmly believe that the mistakes that this offender made during the course of committing this crime and afterwards – and even before actually committing the crime in the pre-attack surveillance that appears to have happened — that he will be caught.”
We sure hope so!!!
